What's the difference between monthly and annual billing?
Last reviewed Oct 7, 2026 by Jeremy Werden
Short answer
Monthly billing charges you every month and can be paused or canceled at any time, while annual billing charges the whole year up front: $199 for the BNBCalc Calculator or $399 for BNBCalc Markets. Annual saves 45% or 58% compared with paying monthly for a year. Both renew automatically and carry the same 14-day refund window.
What each option costs
| Plan | Monthly | Annual | Annual saving |
|---|---|---|---|
| Calculator | $30 a month | $199 a year | 45% |
| Markets (includes the Calculator) | $79 a month | $399 a year | 58% |
The saving compares one annual payment with twelve monthly ones, and both plans start with the same 7-day free trial either way. In many European countries, prices show and are charged in euros instead.
How annual billing works
An annual plan is charged once, up front, for the whole year. Next to yearly plans you'll see a per-month figure; that's just the yearly price divided by 12 and rounded, to make it easy to compare, and you're never charged it monthly.
That catches people out, so keep in mind that both the pricing page and the upgrade window open with yearly selected. If you'd rather pay monthly, switch the toggle before you check out. When a trial ends, the first charge follows whatever you picked, which is why a yearly trial converts into a single larger charge.
What's the same either way
Whichever you choose, you get the same features for the plan, and the subscription renews automatically: monthly plans every month, and annual plans a year after your first charge. Canceling works the same way on both, and you keep access until the end of the month or year you've paid for. The refund policy is the same too, since any monthly or annual charge can be refunded in full if you ask within 14 days of it.
Two things do differ. Monthly plans can be paused for 1 to 3 months, while annual plans can't. And once the 14-day window has passed, there's no partial refund for the unused part of an annual plan.
Switching between monthly and annual
To switch, open Settings → Billing → Manage subscription → Change plan, which takes you to BNBCalc's secure payment portal. The change applies straight away. Moving to a more expensive option charges the difference for the rest of your current period right then, and moving to a cheaper one leaves a credit on your account that comes off your next charges, rather than a refund to your card.
A few things to keep in mind before you switch:
- During a free trial, switching here ends the trial and starts billing immediately.
- Older prices: your subscription keeps the price you signed up at while it renews unchanged, but switching moves you to the current price for your new choice.
- How do I change or upgrade my plan? covers upgrades from the Calculator to Markets, which work differently.
Frequently asked questions
Why was I charged the full yearly price at once?
Annual plans are billed once a year, up front. The per-month figure shown next to yearly plans is the yearly price divided by 12, not a monthly charge. If you meant to pick monthly, you can ask for a full refund within 14 days of the charge.
Does BNBCalc offer a discount for paying yearly?
Yes. Paying yearly saves 45% on the Calculator and 58% on Markets compared with twelve monthly payments: $199 or $399 a year, charged once up front.

How does the free trial work, and when am I charged?
The BNBCalc Calculator and Markets plans each start with a 7-day free trial, once per account. Nothing is charged until it ends at 11:59 PM in your time zone, 7 days after you start. Then you're charged for the plan you picked at checkout, which is the full yearly price unless you switched to monthly.
