How is the BNBCalc API billed?

Last reviewed Oct 8, 2026 by Jeremy Werden

Short answer

The BNBCalc API has no monthly fee. You pay $0.20 for each report it successfully creates, plus $0.10 for each AI step that completes, such as AI comps or AI expense estimates. Requests that return an error are free, and your usage is billed monthly through your API subscription, separately from any Calculator or Markets plan.

What you pay for

The API runs on its own usage-based subscription, so you're only charged for the work it does:

What happensPrice
The API subscription itselfNo monthly fee
A create request that successfully returns a report$0.20
Each AI step on that request that completes (AI comps, AI expense estimates)$0.10 more
An enhance request$0.10 for each AI step that completes, with no report fee
A request BNBCalc answers with an error, including rate-limited onesFree

The report fee covers the analysis itself. Since the enhance endpoint adds AI steps to an analysis you've already paid for, it only charges for the AI work that completes, and if every AI step on an enhance call fails, the call costs nothing. AI steps that time out or fail on a create request aren't charged either.

Keep in mind that billing follows what BNBCalc finishes, not what your client receives: if your app gives up waiting before the response arrives, the report may still have been created and billed.

If you subscribed from one of the European countries where BNBCalc prices in euros, the API costs €0.17 per report and €0.085 per completed AI step instead.

A worked example

Say your app creates 100 Buy analyses in a month and asks for AI comps on 40 of them, which complete on 35 and time out on the other 5, while 10 more requests fail validation. At current prices, that month you'd pay for:

  • 100 reports at $0.20 each, or $20;
  • 35 completed AI steps at $0.10 each, or $3.50;
  • nothing for the 10 failed requests or the 5 AI steps that timed out.

So the bill for the month comes to $23.50.

Your invoice counts the same usage in units of $0.10: two units for each report and one for each completed AI step, which makes 235 units for the month in this example.

When you're billed

Usage adds up over each monthly billing period, which starts on the day you subscribed, and the total is billed through your API subscription when the period ends. Since there's no minimum, a month without any successful requests costs nothing.

The self-serve price is the same at any volume. If your integration needs high-volume planning or a custom arrangement, the API pricing page explains how to reach the BNBCalc team.

The API subscription is separate from the Calculator and Markets plans. It doesn't include either plan, and neither plan includes API usage.

Tracking your usage and invoices

Open Settings, then API, to see the API Usage card. It shows your request counts for each billing period, a daily usage chart and a breakdown by status code, so you can spot failed requests early. Your Stripe invoices, under Invoices on the same page, show the final amount for each period, and you can download each one.

Canceling

Click Cancel Subscription on the same page. Your API subscription then ends on the first day of the next month: your key keeps working until then, and the usage up to that date goes on a final invoice. After that, your API key stops working and requests are refused.

Frequently asked questions

Am I charged if my app times out before the BNBCalc API responds?

You can be. Billing happens when BNBCalc finishes the request, so if your client gives up first, the report may still have been created and billed. That's why the API docs recommend a client timeout of at least 300 seconds for requests with AI steps.

How do I see my BNBCalc API usage and invoices?

Open Settings, then API. The API Usage card shows your request counts for each billing period, with a daily chart and a breakdown by status code, and Invoices lists your Stripe invoices, which show the final amount you're charged.
