Cleaning fee
Also called cleaning charge. Last reviewed Oct 8, 2026 by Jeremy Werden
A cleaning fee is the one-time charge a short-term rental adds to each booking to cover cleaning between guests. In BNBCalc, the cleaning fees guests pay are counted in revenue, and the cost of cleaning is counted separately as an operating expense: 8% of revenue by default on a new US analysis.
Yearly cleaning fees ≈ number of stays × cleaning fee per stay
How BNBCalc treats it
Cleaning shows up twice in an analysis, on purpose. The revenue estimate includes the cleaning fees guests pay, because comparable listings earn that money with each booking. The cost of getting the home cleaned is then subtracted as Cleaning Cost %, part of the operating expenses, so the fees you collect and the cleaning you pay for are meant to roughly offset each other. New analyses in lower-income countries start at a lower percentage.
A home that hosts 40 stays a year at a $150 cleaning fee, for example, collects about $6,000 in cleaning fees. If you know what your cleaner charges, type it into Cleaning Cost Amount and BNBCalc rewrites the percentage to match.
