The Little Red House - private nature getaway

Totally disconnect at the Raven’s Nest a back to basics rustic tiny cabin tucked away in the trees. The cabin is close to the main residence but completely private with a private gated entrance and free parking a short walk to the cabin. The cabin is heated by a small wood stove and an oil heater, has a small kitchen area and a loft with a queen bed. Please note there is no running water and the bathroom is an outhouse a short walk away. There is no cell service or wifi at the cabin. The space Please read full listing, before booking, so you know what to expect. Thank you. Please note there is no cell service or wifi at the cabin. Rustic Chic. The cabin is a 200sq foot space on the main level with a cozy loft space for sleeping. The loft has a queen size bed, access to the loft is by a secured ladder. The space is heated by a wood stove and oil heater, for spring and fall use. During colder weather please make sure to dress appropriately for “winter” camping. Fire wood for the wood stove is provided for each night of stay for the months of Mar. to May and Sept. to Dec. If you need more than what is provided or your stay is in the summer months (June through August) more can be purchased on site. The cabin is not recommended for children. Please contact me to discuss further. There is no running water. There will be a 5 gallon jug of clean drinking water provided, you are responsible for your own water should you need more than what has been provided. You can boil the water in the rain barrel for washing dishes ( if there has been enough rain to fill it), do not drink the water from the rain barrel. The bathroom is an outhouse. The cabin is off grid, however, there is an extension cord located in the cabin for the heater which can also be used to charge phones. Bedding is provided. Temperatures fluctuate in the foothills so make sure to pack according to the forecast. If it has been particularly rainy in the area bring rubber boots. If it is cold bring layers. There is a small kitchenette that will have plates, cups, utensils, kettle, coffee press, dish bin for washing dishes and basic cooking needs like salt, pepper, sugar, cooking oil and drinking water. There is a cook/wash station outside of the cabin with a single burner propane stove, as well as, a BBQ for cooking. Please note that there isn’t cell service or wifi available at the cabin. If you need to make a call, you will have to drive approximately 10 minutes north on the highway. You will need to bring a cooler for your food(which must be kept inside), and we recommend bear spray. Guest access Access to the property is through a double gate that MUST be closed upon entrance and exit, due to the fact there are horses on the property. Parking just inside the gate. There are pylons as markers showing where to park. Other things to note The cabin is rustic and in the woods. Please expect there to be bugs in the summer months and possibly deep snow in the winter months. The property has a hobby farm, therefore you will hear roosters, goats and the occasional donkey bray:) There are dogs on property.

The cabin is located on the same 15 acre property as main residence, however, it is nice and private. We have a small hobby farm, with our goat, fjord horse, cat and dog. Pre arranged horse accommodation available if you want a bed and bail experience with your horse (Contact for details) at an additional cost. Winter visits only possible with a 4x4 vehicle The space Private cabin with 2 bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen/dining room and rec room type entrance area. Private deck with view of Blue Rock Mountain and Kananaskis Country. 80 acres of hills and trees make this a unique ranch with a boutique horse training operation. We cater to guests wanting an off grid experience without being off grid. Your cabin has all the creature comforts of home with a wilderness feel surrounding you. We also have a number of dogs. So this stay is definitely for people who like animals! I must emphasize that if you are nervous around animals, especially dogs, this isn’t the stay for you. Our dogs are very friendly but know their jobs! So at night can bark if any wildlife is in the area. They will meet and greet you when you arrive to see you aren’t a threat! Most of our dogs will try and lick and hug you but if you aren’t accustomed to dogs in your personal space this can be intimidating. We have two Great Pyrenees who love people but they are big and at times actually want to be lap dogs! The vast majority of our guests find the dogs a highlight of their stay but the odd person not familiar with country life have not enjoyed that part of their visit. So I like to be very specific that we are a working ranch in the foothills with animals and wildlife all around. Please only book if you are excited for that type of stay. We do ask for our guests to sign a waiver, more just to draw your attention to the many things going on around the property so you can enjoy your stay to the fullest. If you’re unfamiliar with horses and dogs and chickens but would like to meet any with our help, just let me know and we will do our very best to accommodate. Guest access Guests have full and private access of the cabin and the attached deck to the cabin. We ask that you don’t walk around the rest of the deck as that looks straight into our private residence. In terms of the property you are more than welcome to wonder anywhere and everywhere. We have lots of lovely walking trails for you to explore. If you wonder over to the horses area make sure you say hello over the fence, not in the paddock with them. We have a friendly herd but they are big and sometimes unpredictable animals. So for your safety say your hello’s with a fence between you! Also, basic ranch rules of if you open a gate make sure you close it behind you apply to all areas on the property :) Other things to note There are 6 dogs on the property. All very people friendly except 1 who will just keep her distance. Others may be too friendly!! Please let us know if they are a bit excessive in the welcome department and we will do our best to distract them. They do free roam on the property though so you’re aware. They do bark from time to time too. Typically only at something (a squirrel or someone coming up the driveway for example) but calm down quickly. They are excellent deterrents for larger animals though and we rarely see bears or cougars on the property. Please only book if you are ok with dogs though. The vast majority of guests find the animals a huge highlight for their stay but a few guests have arrived extremely nervous of dogs and it’s hurt their enjoyment of their visit. So I advise strongly if you aren’t looking for a ranch, country experience then this isn’t the stay for you.

The space This cozy cabin stay is set in among the trees near a creek with access to 4 acres of walking trails, also equipped with a playground, trampoline & swing line. Guests have access to use this area for their enjoyment. Please note the permanent residence is nearby up the hill. The below area is for cabin use. The cabin has electric heat, and power but no shower facilities. There is a detached heated outhouse for your use. A mini fridge and BBQ, outdoor cooking cart, a crockpot, rice cooker, and toaster oven as well as both hot and cold drinking water for cooking and a Nespresso Vertuo are provided. There is also ground coffee and a French press if you prefer that instead! Enjoy your escape into nature for the ultimate glamping experience! Please be aware that we have a family guardian puppy who is very playful but still a puppy. The property is her guarding space and she will protect you as well once she gets to know you! Let us be your refuge here in the foothills and luxuriate in our huge rooms with ensuites. Just 10 minutes to the Millarville Market and Track to the east, Priddis tennis, golf and pub to the north and to the west, Kananaskis Country with hundreds of kilometres of mapped trails for hiking, biking and riding. Escape to the country where there's room to roam, and let the stars get in your eyes by the campfire for an evening. This is horse country, so bring them too and stable them at the barn! The space This large 16-foot square room has an electric fireplace for ambiance lighting and heat, a table with two chairs, and huge reading chair and a new queen bed. The private ensuite with shower is decorated with an antique dresser with granite counter and matching antique hutch. A trundle bed is available for this room at an additional cost of $30/night which includes another set of towels and sheets. To see my other listings or book a different room, CLICK ON MY PHOTO. Trundle beds are available in the Great Room if you book all rooms. The Great Room is a huge common area available to all guests where you can warm up a snack, make tea or coffee and socialize. It includes a huge leather couch and chair, TV, bluetooth speaker, dining room table and chairs and large kitchen counter for prep. The kitchen facilities include: microwave, fridge, coffee maker, kettle, toaster, infrared cooktop and covered wok, crockpot and dishes and utensils. Attached to this is a deck with two bistro sets and a patio with lounge chairs where you can see the mountains. With advance notice, a barbecue may be rented for use on the patio for $20/day if you wish to use my fuel on the understanding you will clean the grill once you are done. There is a brick campfire where you can sit out under the stars or make some smores or hotdogs over the flames barring a fireban by the County of Foothills. Brush is available for you to collect for burning, or you can purchase wood from me for $10/bag. Guest access You'll have access your large bedroom and the huge deck with lounge chairs off of it. This listing is for one large bedroom with a queen, private ensuite, electric fireplace and use of Great Room with kitchenette, TV, lounge, dining room. Within a few minutes are Millarville Market and Track, Priddis tennis, golf and pub, Rothney Observatory and Leighton Centre, and Kananaskis Country with hundreds of kilometres of mapped trails for hiking, biking and riding. Let us be your refuge here in the hills and let the stars get in your eyes by the campfire. Ponies are welcome too. The space This spacious bedroom is 16' square, with a private ensuite with shower, an electric fireplace for ambiance and heat, a bistro table with two chairs, plus a reading chair & footstool, and HVAC system for fresh air. The Great Room is a huge common area available to all guests where you can cook, warm up food, make tea or coffee and socialize. There is deck and patio off the Great Room with a fireplace where you can sit out under the stars or make some smores or hotdogs over the flames barring a fire ban by the County of Foothills. It has two bistro sets and a patio with a real fireplace, lounge chairs where you can see the mountains. Brush is available for you to collect for burning, or you can purchase pre-bagged wood from me. With advance notice, a barbecue may be rented for use on the patio for $25 with fuel. The space Tucked into the lower, walk-out level of our home, the suite is cozy, comfortable, and set up so you can really settle in and relax. On the other side, there’s a comfy living area with a big-screen TV, and the main couch pulls out into a double bed. A privacy curtain separates the two spaces, so it works great whether you’re traveling as a couple, with friends, or with family. The bathroom has been newly renovated and is a guest favorite. Think a roomy, curbless shower and warm in-floor heating—especially nice on cooler mornings. Right outside your private entrance is a small covered patio that’s just right for sipping your morning coffee or unwinding at the end of the day. You’re also welcome to use the firepit and BBQ, which makes evenings here extra relaxing. Our home sits on a really special piece of land with a lot of local history. The property was once home to a tiny post office and general store, and later a tea and boarding house called “Galloway House.” While those original buildings are long gone, the sense of story and character is still very much here. Today, the property is nestled into a beautiful natural area that was set aside as a nature preserve. It’s quiet, green, and full of that peaceful, tucked-away feeling—perfect for slowing down, getting outside, and enjoying a stay that feels both comfortable and a little bit special. Guest access The suite has its own private outdoor entrance, so you can come and go whenever you like. It’s fully self-contained with its own washroom, plus heating and cooling to keep things comfy in any season. You’re also welcome to enjoy the BBQ and fire pit during your stay—perfect for laid-back meals and cozy evenings, just please use them responsibly and make yourself at home. We do ask that all pet house rules are followed. Crates are available for guest use, and we appreciate advance notice if you’re bringing a dog so we can prepare the suite accordingly.
