This is a private apartment on the 3rd floor of my restored 1905 home in one of Detroit's hippest neighborhoods. Private entrance, big bedroom, stocked kitchen, bathroom, eating nook, living room. So close to the river - close to Belle Isle, walk to coffee shops and restaurants. Last but not least, a top-ratee comfortable pillow top mattress so you sleep and feel great! This is not a hotel experience. In the true original spirit of AirBnB you will be a guest in my private in-laws suite. The space Historic home restored on a stunning block 1/2 block from 2 bus lines and easy ride to downtown ($8-12) Walkable to bars and restaurants and close to Belle Isle. Street parking and chill owner. It was originally the servants quarters 100 years ago but now I use it as an apartment that I let my friends and family use and I Airbnb when it's available. The apartment is a third floor walk up. It’s not suitable for people who require wheelchairs, or people who are likely to suffer a fall. The stairs are not abnormally narrow but certainly not as wide as a staircase would be in a new house. Also, they are more steep than you would normally see in a new office or a new house. If you’re on crutches, this might not be the best apartment for you to rent. It’s an old house. Every once in a while, I’ll find a 115 year-old piece of wood that’s starting to splinter or maybe a floor tack is exposed. As long as you are familiar with the quirkiness of old homes, you’ll be fine. Please add to the reservation all people who will be in the apartment during your stay. Outside guests are not allowed without prior approval and will be charged for the visit if not approved. Radiator heat from the bottom 2 floors tend to warm the apartment but there’s space heaters available for when it’s really cold out. There is no central AC but plenty of fans and window AC units. Sometimes the window air-conditioning units will already be set up installed in the windows, and sometimes they will be stored in the closet. Please note, because Michigan temperatures change so frequently, guests will often take the AC units out easily then put them back in - it’s a simple process. If you are not comfortable with rearranging furniture or window air-conditioning units yourself, this might not be the best apartment for you. As with the fold out couch, guests will have the freedom to rearrange and configure the apartment as if it was their own home. Before you check out, please just move everything back the way you found it. Yet another reason I don’t charge a cleaning fee. Just treat it like it is your own home. The apartment is the in-laws suite (formally known as maid and servants quarters) in my home. You’ll have full privacy but try to keep it somewhat quiet at night as there in may be others who sleep downstairs. The best way to do this is to remove your shoes before you walk up the stairs. Without shoes, nearly no noise will travel thru the house. If you require total silence for sleeping, I provide ear plugs, and I can also assist you in setting up a free white nice app on a smart device. If you’re not familiar with Michigan, sometimes, though seldom, you will find the random ladybug, stinkbug, or boxelder. There will be no insects in the apartment which have the ability to bite you :) Even the stinkbug only eats fruit, not people. If you have severe dog allergies, message me first before booking. With any quirky old home little nooks and crannies like the baseboard heaters, and the eaves are likely to collect dust in the little crevices that the stink bugs love. If you are the type of person who is expecting a hotel level of cleanliness, please do not book. Renting this apartment is like being a guest in a friend’s home. Please leave it the way you found it. There are ample cleaning supplies, 2 vacuums, and everything you need to save on not paying a typical cleaning fee. I only charge a $15 laundry cleaning fee so please scrub and sanitize up before you leave. Thanks! Bright, compact corner room with lots of windows & a unique private bath in our quirky, century-old Detroit home & urban homestead, just 2 miles from Downtown. Single memory-foam bed, desk/table, mini fridge, microwave, fast WiFi, window AC, digital lock & easy 24/7 self check-in. Normally set up for 1 guest; a second single bed can replace the desk upon request. Shared full kitchen, laundry, garden & outdoor area. The space THE ROOM M4 is a bright, compact private room tucked into a corner of the second floor of our century-old Detroit home. Windows on multiple sides bring in lots of natural light and give this small room a distinctive, airy feel. It's normally configured for one guest with a single memory-foam bed and desk/table, along with a mini fridge, microwave, fast WiFi, digital bedroom lock, central boiler heat and window AC. For two guests, we can add a second single bed upon request. The desk/table is removed to make room for the second bed, creating a cozy but functional two-person setup. Storage is limited, so M4 works best for guests who travel relatively light. Your bedroom and bathroom are completely private. M4 is on the second floor, so guests must be comfortable climbing one flight of stairs. Guests enter through our shared front door and head upstairs to M4. Hanging fabric room dividers help separate the entry path from our ground-floor living area, allowing guests to come and go with minimal interaction. PRIVATE BATHROOM One of M4's standout features is its surprisingly spacious and characterful private bathroom, reserved exclusively for you. Built in the 1920s, it became a podiatric teaching hospital in the 1950s, where more than 2,200 podiatrists attended surgical training programs. After the hospital closed, the building eventually returned to residential use. Today we're continuing its story as our family home, restoration project and urban homestead while welcoming guests from around the world. Parts of this old house continue to evolve as we restore and improve it. If you're curious about the house or its history, just ask. We're always happy to share what we know. WHAT TO EXPECT M4's appeal is its unusual combination of a compact, light-filled corner bedroom and a surprisingly generous private bathroom. It's especially well suited to solo travelers who don't need a large bedroom but value their own bathroom, a workspace and lots of natural light. It can also accommodate two guests with the optional second single bed. In the two-bed configuration, the desk/table is removed and the bedroom becomes quite cozy, so we recommend reviewing the photos and room setup carefully if booking for two. SHARED KITCHEN For cooking and more involved food preparation, our quirky commercial-industrial kitchen is shared with our family and other guests. It has lots of stainless steel, big sinks and an eclectic collection of cookware, sharp knives, coffee gear, appliances and tools for cooking and prep. It's a practical, well-used kitchen and especially great for guests who enjoy cooking. LAUNDRY Guests have access to our shared ground-floor laundry area. Machines are available for $2 per wash and $2 per dry cycle. GARDEN & OUTDOOR AREA Guests are welcome to enjoy our evolving urban homestead garden and outdoor area, including picnic tables for eating, working or relaxing outside. We grow vegetables, herbs and other seasonal produce throughout the growing season. LOCATION HIGHLIGHTS One of the best things about our location is how close we are to some of Detroit's favorite destinations. We're just 2 miles from Downtown, 2 miles to Eastern Market and 1 mile to Belle Isle and the Detroit Riverwalk, with easy access to many of the city's east-side neighborhoods. Belle Isle is Detroit's beautiful island park in the Detroit River, while historic Eastern Market is one of the city's best destinations for food, markets, local businesses and exploring. We're always happy to share recommendations. DETROIT & OUR NEIGHBORHOOD If you're new to Detroit, the city can look different from places you've visited before. Decades of population loss left many homes vacant, and thousands were eventually demolished. The remnants of that history are still visible throughout the city. Today there's tremendous energy going into restoring Detroit's historic homes. In our part of the city, you'll see beautifully renovated houses, active restoration projects, vacant lots and older homes still waiting to be brought back to life, sometimes all on the same street. For first-time visitors, that contrast can be surprising or even look intimidating, so we want guests to know what to expect. We're near Detroit's historic Grand Boulevard, a distinctive parkway created during an era of rapid growth to encircle what was then the city. Our part of Detroit has also been home to a remarkable mix of people, from world-famous musicians and TV personalities to influential civil rights leaders. Jack White has a house in nearby Indian Village, and legendary Detroit activist and philosopher Grace Lee Boggs also made this part of the city her home. We've lived in Detroit since 2013 and have spent much of that time restoring old houses ourselves. We're enthusiastic about the energy going into bringing Detroit's neighborhoods and historic buildings back to life, and we're proud to contribute in our own small way. We also want to be transparent: you'll see vacant lots, unrestored homes and occasional blighted properties in the surrounding area. Their appearance can be surprising if you've never visited Detroit before, but they're also part of a city undergoing an extraordinary period of reinvestment and restoration. FOOD & GROCERY DELIVERY Detroit has lots of restaurant delivery options through Uber Eats, DoorDash and Grubhub, including many great local spots. For groceries, we generally recommend delivery. Instacart and store delivery services make it easy to order from Meijer, ALDI, Kroger, Walmart and other area stores. If you'd rather shop in person, our favorite nearby full grocery store is Rivertown Market by Meijer, about 3 miles away. It has fresh produce, prepared foods, groceries and everyday essentials. For a few basics, there's also a small neighborhood market within easy walking distance. It's more of a liquor/convenience store than a full grocery store. One tip: online searches may suggest a different full grocery store as one of the closest options. Based on our local experience, we recommend Rivertown Market instead, or grocery delivery if you don't have a car. Built in the 1920s, it became a podiatric teaching hospital in the 1950s, where more than 2,200 podiatrists attended surgical training programs. After the hospital closed, the building eventually returned to residential use. Today we're continuing its story as our family home, restoration project and urban homestead while welcoming guests from around the world. Parts of this old house continue to evolve as we restore and improve it. If you're curious about the house or its history, just ask. We're always happy to share what we know. We're just 2 miles from Downtown, 2 miles to Eastern Market and 1 mile to Belle Isle and the Detroit Riverwalk, with easy access to many of the city's east-side neighborhoods. Belle Isle is Detroit's beautiful island park in the Detroit River, while historic Eastern Market is one of the city's best destinations for food, markets, local businesses and exploring. We're always happy to share recommendations. DETROIT & OUR NEIGHBORHOOD If you're new to Detroit, the city can look different from places you've visited before. Decades of population loss left many homes vacant, and thousands were eventually demolished. The remnants of that history are still visible throughout the city. Today there's tremendous energy going into restoring Detroit's historic homes. In our part of the city, you'll see beautifully renovated houses, active restoration projects, vacant lots and older homes still waiting to be brought back to life, sometimes all on the same street. For first-time visitors, that contrast can be surprising or even look intimidating, so we want guests to know what to expect. We're near Detroit's historic Grand Boulevard, a distinctive parkway created during an era of rapid growth to encircle what was then the city. Our part of Detroit has also been home to a remarkable mix of people, from world-famous musicians and TV personalities to influential civil rights leaders. Jack White has a house in nearby Indian Village, and legendary Detroit activist and philosopher Grace Lee Boggs also made this part of the city her home. We've lived in Detroit since 2013 and have spent much of that time restoring old houses ourselves. We're enthusiastic about the energy going into bringing Detroit's neighborhoods and historic buildings back to life, and we're happy to contribute to this endeavor. We also want to be transparent: you'll see vacant lots, unrestored homes and occasional blighted properties in the surrounding area. Their appearance can be surprising if you've never visited Detroit before, but they're also part of a city undergoing an extraordinary period of reinvestment and restoration. We're always happy to share our experience and perspective with guests who are curious about Detroit. ACCESS M6 is located on the second floor and requires climbing one flight of stairs. The front entrance itself is shared with our family and other guests. LAUNDRY Paid laundry is available in the shared ground-floor laundry area for $2 per wash and $2 per dry cycle. PARKING Free street parking is available on the surrounding streets. As with street parking in any major city, we recommend removing valuables from your vehicle and using an anti-theft device. CLUB steering-wheel locks are available to rent for $1 per day. FOOD & GROCERY DELIVERY Detroit has lots of restaurant delivery options through Uber Eats, DoorDash and Grubhub, including many great local spots. For groceries, we generally recommend delivery. Instacart and store delivery services make it easy to order from Meijer, ALDI, Kroger, Walmart and other area stores. If you'd rather shop in person, our favorite nearby full grocery store is Rivertown Market by Meijer, about 3 miles away. It has fresh produce, prepared foods, groceries and everyday essentials. For a few basics, there's also a small neighborhood market within easy walking distance. It's more of a liquor/convenience store than a full grocery store. One tip: online searches may suggest a different full grocery store as one of the closest options. Based on our local experience, we recommend Rivertown Market instead, or grocery delivery if you don't have a car. Everything for a comfy stay: cozy bed, bath & kitchen w/essentials. Kitchenette has fridge, coffee maker, microwave (no stove). No TV but good WIFI. Street parking. Basement laundry for small fee. Intentional no-rush check-in/out time. Not a hotel, just a old building with a clean, quiet space for travelers. Read all of listing & reviews. The space Perfect for solo travelers or partners, writers and artists. Designed for personal retreat! Renovated home located in Poletown neighborhood. 5-minute drive to cultural center and 10-minute drive to Downtown Detroit. If you've never visited, you may be surprised by the bucolic feel: urban farms, prairie fields, and a mix of abandoned houses with newly-renovated homes (mine is one of the latter.) We feel safe in our building, there's an outdoor ring system and a dog (who is quiet). The neighborhood isn't a "bad neighborhood" it's just another part of Detroit's vast landscape of interesting people, including blue-collar workers, artists, teachers, low-income earners, retirees, urban farmers, and the elderly. We have a raised-bed garden area, a fenced-in yard with a deck and chairs, and beehives in the corner you can view from a safe distance. There is a city-implemented bird sanctuary across the street and small forest-park behind us. People say it feels like "a world away" when you stay here. Guest access If you have a car you can park in front of the house and a sidewalk leads you through the gate to and from the building door. There's plenty of Lyft and Uber drivers near my home and you are 5 minutes to the Cultural Centers, 5 minutes to New Center and the North End, 10 minutes to the Business District, and minutes from most major freeways to the suburbs. You rent use electric scooters or Mogo Bikes to get around most areas and use them to get back to my home if you're feeling adventurous. I'm an avid biker and often use it for transportation around Detroit all year round - you could bring a bike or rent one in advance from Wheelhouse Detroit. Other things to note The building has two other units and you are in a third completely private and secure unit. Outside the locked door of your apartment is my wellness and art studio, which you will walk through to get to your unit. I am the only person who will have access to the studio, and don't use the space when there is an Airbnb guest. To be clear: your unit is completely private and behind your locked entrance door.

Whether you are here for business or pleasure you will enjoy this cozy suite located in Windsor's famous Walkerville area home of Hiram Walker Distillery the maker of Canadian Club Whiskey. The space This private suite has a brand new luxury bathroom with an extra large stand up shower and a queen size bed with hotel quality sheets. There is a "breakfast bar" counter with bar stools which includes a mini fridge, microwave, Keurig and complimentary coffee, tea and water. Please note this space does not have a kitchen. There is no cooking other than in the microwave provided. This space also doubles as a workspace with built in USB charging plugs for all your devices. The TV has Netflix available for you to curl up in the comfy leather chair and ottoman in front of the fireplace. There is a closet equipped with an iron and ironing board as well as luggage racks. All of this has a private keyless entry for your convenience. We have a locking bicycle shed to safely secure your “rigs” overnight. Guest access This suite is in the lower level of the home that you will have all to yourself. You are also welcome to the relaxing sitting space on the front porch.
