Boater's Paradise! Experience the lower chain of lakes from this adorable northern Michigan cottage. Fully equipped - just bring your toothbrush and beach towels! We are just a short walk from private, township access sites on the south shore of Torch Lake. The back yard provides a nice patio space, Weber charcoal grill and great fire pit for some s'more making in the evening. You are allowed to bring up to two of your pups, with a $25 pet fee per dog. The space We are approximately 2 miles from downtown Alden where you will find quaint shops, beautiful parks and great food and drink. Guest access You will have full private access to this cottage. Other things to note I allow up to two pets per visit. Your furry friend must be house trained, well behaved and not left alone in the cottage at any time unless crated. I charge a $25 pet fee, per pet, per visit. And of course, please make sure the yard is cleaned up upon your departure.

It sits on 2 forested acres with frontage on the Rapid River, only 1.5 miles from Torch Lake. 3 bedrooms, 2 full & stylish bathrooms, and plenty of outdoor space provide a delightful private retreat. Large circle drive - perfect for those traveling with boats and snowmobile trailers! This place works great for summer boating and winter snowmobiling. Living room has a leather couch and TV. The stone fireplace is non functional; please do not use. Downstairs is a fully furnished walkout basement. There is a bedroom with a set of full size bunk beds, queen bed, and dresser in the bedroom downstairs. Large second living room with two couches, a TV, and eating area with table and chairs. Not available to guests on the lower level: access to the utility room and access to a small locked closet under the steps. No pets, please. Outside: The home is hidden among a thick cedar forest, with one acre out front and another out back. In the back, there is 200 feet of private frontage on the Rapid River, a "Premium Trout Stream" according to Michigan DNR. AND, as of May, 2026, we've installed a brand new private dock! Please note, while the dock is complete, the path to the river is under development and not yet complete. It is muddy, and has plywood laid across a few of the muddier portions while we await installation of a boardwalk. You may use the dock, but guests do so with the understanding that it is at their own risk, and understand that the path is muddy. Boardwalk will be completed in June. Guests are welcome to bring their own kayaks, stand up paddle board, canoe, etc, but access to and use of the river is done at the guest's own risk. Motorized boats are prohibited/unable to navigate the shallow river. Owner assumes no responsibility for activities in the water or woods. Damage or litter in forest or along river's edge will not be tolerated - please enjoy gently. It takes 40-50 minutes to paddle from the home, down the Rapid River, Torch River, into Torch lake. It is a wide, smooth and slow float. If you do the float- note that the rapid river flows toward Torch Lake, but the last 15 min in the Torch River is upstream (manageable in kayak and canoe -but paddle at your own discretion). Please note we are a new build and do not have landscaping or grass yet. The front yard is a dirt/sand mix. There is no dock into the river from our property yet (coming May, 2026). If you see a dock, please do not use as it belongs to our neighbors. Entire home available to guests, exclusive of utility room and small closet under the steps. The sliding glass door coming from the living room opens onto the deck facing the water. Here you can enjoy morning coffee, a favorite libation, or grill and dine outdoors. Cell phone reception is generally quite good in this area, but we do not provide internet service. There is a propane wall furnace for the cool months. Other things to note -Renters may not operate motorized watercraft (boats, jet skis, etc.) at our waterfront. This includes tying up to the mooring balls and pulling up to the dock for loading and unloading. Please plan accordingly. If you need to get off your boat, we ask that you stop at Alden Harbor or Dockside as an alternative. -You may bring a max of 2 vehicles to the house. The 1st vehicle may be parked on the gravel next to the sheds on the east side of the house. The 2nd vehicle may be parked back on the gravel closer to the line of large trees, but be careful not to drive over the rectangular areas with wood chips as these are septic system access points. -Please note that our association does not allow renters to bring their boats/trailers on the association property. If you would like to bring a boat on a trailer to launch at one of the two nearby boat launches (Butch’s/Clam River or Alden Harbor) please reach out to me for details about a convenient place to keep the boat and trailer. You may also be interested in renting a boat from DeWitt Marine, Butch's or Dockside Water Sports, all of which are located just a mile north of our cabin. -Please only use the dock to the north which we call the swim dock. The south dock (with the boats) is for owners only. -Smoking of all kinds is not permitted in the house or in the common spaces such as the beach, community deck, or dock. -Guests may not bring pets. However, please note, some of the owners in our community have pets so you may see them on the property occasionally. -Guests may not start campfires at the fire pit by the water. Guests are welcome to join when there is a campfire already started, but an owner must start and be responsible for it. Please feel free to enjoy the fire table on the deck. We check to make sure there is some propane available for the fire table and grill before each stay. If propane runs out during your stay, you may refill at your own expense at Village Market nearby in Alden or Family Fare in Bellaire. -Drive slowly and carefully as there are often small children at play throughout the community. -Please observe community quiet hours of 10:00 PM-8:00 AM. -Maximum occupancy of the Cedar Cabin is 5 people. -Some of our neighbors have kayaks and paddle boards which are not for your use. You are welcome to use our kayak and stand up paddle boards which are kept on the rack on the west side of the house. Elk Lake has a depth of 192 ft, making it the second deepest lake in Michigan, second only to Torch Lake which lies directly to its east. To the west of Little Elk Cottage lies the East Arm of Grand Traverse Bay, which is a bay of Lake Michigan. Comfortable for 2 people, with the option of a fold-out twin cot suitable for a small child, teen, or very small adult. This property sits on a large lot and has direct river access to Rapid River via short trail. Rapid River is amongst the chain of rivers in the area that directly connects to Torch River and Torch Lake. Torch River is a short paddle from the property. Guest access Log cabin is a private residence for you to enjoy, with it's own backyard area, private patio, and a direct access path to the property River Front. Other things to note We provide an initial supply of toilet paper, paper towels, and bath/kitchen towels. Once these items have been used or if additional supply is needed, that will be the guest's responsibility. We do not replenish during stays. Shower essentials like shampoo, conditioner, soap are not provided. 1 of the beds is a fold-away twin cot and is good for a small child or very small adult. 2 Kayaks are provided for your enjoyment and use during your stay. This house is located outside Alden. It sits on 35 acres and is 1/4 of a mile from the road. The location is rural, secluded and quiet. There is ample parking for boats and recreational vehicles. The view from the deck is spectacular, you can see out over 10 miles. It's private and has a wide wraparound deck, with a covered area at the front. It's perfect for grilling, relaxing and watching the sky after a day out. The kitchen is open and provides a lot of space for food preparation. The space This house was built by my father after he retired. He enjoyed ten years of retirement here. I like the idea of sharing with others this beautiful space he created. With deer, horses, sandhill cranes, ground squirrels, the occasional eagle, various songbirds, and upland sandpipers, there is a lot of animal watching from the deck. It is impossible to oversell the view from the deck. I have had guests who had planned on eating out cancel those plans and stay home and eat dinner in so they could soak in the view. The house now has Internet with wifi and a smart TV. The kitchen is stocked with nonperishable essentials (Salt, pepper, sugar, dishwashing soap). I have listed that AC is available. I have a window unit. Since the house isn't that big, it works really well. Fortunately, the nights during the summer are mild and it's not needed a lot of the time. Guest access This is a one-floor home. You have access to the entire house. There is a basement which will not be accessible. There is also a barn which is not accessible.
