Without it you may not reach the cabin or may become stuck. The county plows the roads and our driveway is privately plowed when it snows 4+ inches, but mountain weather is real. Please plan accordingly. Firewood & grill: We normally keep firewood stocked in winter and propane for the grill, but supply is not guaranteed. If the propane tank is empty and you exchange it at the local hardware store, I will reimburse you with receipt. Quiet neighborhood: This is a peaceful residential area. No parties. If you are looking for nightlife and crowds, Breckenridge or Denver will suit you better. This home is for rest, nature, and recharge. Minimum age: 25 for primary renter Non-smoking property- smoking or vaping is permitted outside only. Altitude notice: At ~11,000 feet, some guests may feel the effects of altitude. Summer note: This is an alpine environment. Some dust and occasional mountain wildlife (carpenter ants, mice) are part of life up here. We treat and manage them proactively, but they do appear from time to time, as they do throughout the Rockies. Fire restrictions: Per Park County ordinance, no open fires, bonfires, charcoal fires, or fireworks. Gas grill is allowed. Guest access You’ll have the cabin and 1.25 acres to yourself. Supply and owner's closets are locked and not accessible. The owners have big plans for this room and additional photos will be added as this room is finished out. There is a bedroom on this level that has bunk beds that are both full size. The bathroom has a walk-in shower.  There is a brand new hot tub to relax in after a long day of skiing or hiking. It is in the deck so you can enjoy the gorgeous views or the stars at night.  You will truly enjoy this location and the fact that is it central to so many outdoor activities. There are restaurants, shopping and a grocery store in close proximity to the home. Many of the best festivals are held in this area so be sure to check with us for the schedule. Fairplay is home to the famous South Park City which is a renovated 1800's mining town. You will want to be sure and explore this town as it is a favorite attraction for tourists. South Park has been designated a National Historic Monument because of the rich history here. There are 100's of old mines and ghost towns to explore. Be sure to bring your fishing gear as the Platte River is know for it's "Gold Medal" fishing. Almost any activity you can think of is just a short drive from the home. Some of these include hiking, ATVing, 4-wheeling, white-water rafting, fishing, hunting, and skiing. Park County is an activity center of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, it's a great "base camp!" If you can think of an outdoor activity, you will probably find it within 10-20 minutes of the cabin. If you are not into hiking, there are always horses to ride, white-water to conquer on a raft, snow shoe trails, cross country skiing, and many other activities to challenge each and every person. If you are just into beautiful drives, there are many that we can recommend with old mines and pioneer towns to explore. There is fabulous outlet mall shopping in nearby Silverthorne where you can shop and pick up any supplies and clothing that you need for your adventures. It is just an awesome place to stay. There is no hustle and bustle and absolutely NO traffic and traffic noise. You are close enough to the activities to enjoy them if you want but far enough away to have your own peace and solitude.  The area has so much to offer in the way of activities. In the summer, there is horseback riding right down highway 9 at the Platte River Ranch. They have 2 hour rides, half day rides, and dinner rides. It is a great place for the family to go and ride through the forest and mountain meadows. They give you a true old West experience. There is fishing very near the property. There are several spots and parks near the home where you can fish. Hiking trails are all around in the Pike National Forest. Many of the famous 14'ers are in this area like Mt. Sherman, Mt. Lincoln, Mt. Bross, Mt. Democrat, and the Buffalo Peaks. If you like ATVing, bring them along and there are many many areas to ride in like Breakneck and Browns Pass and 4-Mile ATV park. Mosquito Pass Road is very very close to the home and you can ride right over Mosquito Pass into Leadville where there are 100's of old mines to explore. You can even ride right into town and enjoy lunch or dinner at some of the quaint refurbished mining town restaurants. There are lots of antique shops to explore as well. It is an awesome day trip.  If you like outlet shopping, Silverthorne is only a short drive and has great shops. Breckenridge also has dozens of great unique shops. Just call us and we can point you toward the nearest ghost town or hiking trail. Be sure to visit the restored 1800's mining town of South Park which is right in Fairplay. You can hike around the property or take a leisurely walk up the mountain roads to National Forest which offers great outdoor hiking trails.  If you are fortunate enough to come in the winter, there is world class skiing and boarding at Breckenridge, Keystone, and A-Basin. Breckenridge is a 20 mile drive from the home. Breckenridge has fabulous shopping and restaurants too. There is a desk or study area as well as a full size sofa bed.  The deck has amazing mountain views and views of the forest. You can relax in the big comfortable deck chairs. There is a gas grill provided as well. The parking is off of the road and has plenty of room for 3 or 4 cars and even a small camper or ATV trailer.  Fairplay is called the "Base Camp of the Rockies" because it is near almost every outdoor activity you can think of. There is horseback riding just 15 miles away at the Platte River Ranch. If you like white water rafting, you can go down to the Arkansas River which is only 40 miles away. There are hundreds of hiking trails and many of the famous 14ers are right behind the house like Mt. Sherman, Mt. Democrat, Mt, Bross, Mt. Lincoln, and Quandary. If you are a fisherman, this is the place to go. The Platte River offers Gold medal fishing and there are many lakes as well such as Montgomery Reservoir, Antero, Spinney, 11-Mile, and Jefferson Lake. You can go to a different location every day. In the winter, you will find skiing and boarding at Breckenridge, Keystone, and A-Basin. You can also drive to Copper Mountain and Vail from the home. The space Silver Fox Lodge is 3 bed/2 bath cabin located at 11,200 feet of elevation (almost double the elevation of Denver) in the Mosquito Range, between Alma and Fairplay. The lodge has breathtaking mountain views and the sunrises and sunsets are spectacular! The lodge is located about 2 hours from Denver and Colorado Springs and about 35-45 minutes to Breckenridge (depending on weather and traffic over the mountain). If you visit in the winter months, you MUST have a vehicle that is 4x4/AWD, with snow tires. In heavy snow conditions, chains are recommended. Vehicle snow rescues in the area are expensive (approx. $250-$500+). Plan ahead and check the weather before your arrival! Please ask us how the roads are around the cabin prior to your arrival.
