Located 19 mi. from Canal Park/Downtown Duluth, 14 mi. to Two Harbors, 4.5 mi. to Stoney Point and 6.6 mi to Knife River Marina Beach, makes this a fabulous location 1 mi. north of Lake Superior and the North Shore Scenic Drive. There is a large pole building on property that will not be accessible along with no access to small outdoor bunkhouse. There is a large deck area around the pool with seating and lounging and large deck outside of main living area with seating and a 36" griddle for outdoor cooking. There is another grill outside of the game room. The large off street parking area can accommodate at least 6 vehicles. We have a self-check in system with a coded entrance and all five of the bedrooms have coded locks on them if needed. We are adding things all the time so there might be some surprises when you get here!! Guest access We live on the property too but have our own entrance and area. We never come into the rental area unless something has to be done, fixed or set up. The areas that cannot be accessed by guests are clearly marked. We're 5 minutes from a boat launch and 10 minutes from the Superior Hiking Trail. The towns of Larsmont and Knife River are quaint and charming, and the proximity to multiple state parks and lovely communities as you head north makes for amazing day trips from our place. During the warmer months there is a Weber charcoal grill and picnic table along with a hammock located under the trees close to the cabin. Enjoy nights outside on the deck by a vintage fire place or by a caldron in the yard near the cabin. Lake Superior is located just across the road from the cabin. The space The drive up to Superior Refuge is on a long winding dirt road that then continues to climb up the driveway. Almost no houses or neighbors will be in view in your private stay. Keep it simple at this peaceful and centrally-located place. Easy access to all the fun events in Duluth, trails along the Northshore, and groceries in Two Harbors. Our cottage is a great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors. You have access by way of a short trail to Lake Superior where you can look for agates, watch the waves or borrow a Kayak. The twin beds are located upstairs (best for kids).

Enjoy a North Shore escape right on Lake Superior in our charming 1300SF waterfront cottage! Privacy abounds with over 7.5-acres featuring a babbling creek, winding path through towering trees, and over 200' of shoreline. Built in 1955, the cottage has been meticulously renovated, inside and out, to highlight original features and the exceptional surroundings. Take your pups swimming in the lake, enjoy a backyard bonfire, venture out for seasonal activities, or stay in and admire the views! The space Featured: - Midwest Home, "5 Gorgeous Getaways in Minnesota" (Roubik 2023) and "A Superior Cottage" (Deering 2022) - Lizanne Lately, "Places to Stay Along the North Shore, MN" The property was the earliest homesteaded in the area back in the late 1880's by three brothers, remained in the same family up until 2010, and we're now lucky enough to become a part of its story, as well. We want to celebrate the history of this truly magical place, rather than erase it. You'll find original features (the yellow bathtub, pocket doors, kitchen casework, built-in hutch, millwork, & more), as well as furnishings and finishes throughout that are the epitome of a cottage: inviting & warm. There are places to kick-back with a book, play games, stream a show, or simply marvel at the endless beauty of Lake Superior. We had a visitor stop-in once who was a friend of the original family and spent his summers here as a kid. He was able to share a lot more about what 'once was' with us, including how the property had been an operational farm, featured a circular driveway (which we hope to bring back), stories of using the outhouse in the late-night hours (which is still standing!), and more, all of which was delightful. We love the history and details, and can imagine the cattle that once grazed in what's now woods! While the barns are no longer, the spirit of the property's former life remains. Please read through all items in the "Other Details To Note" and “House Rules” sections before booking! Guest access Guests can access the entire cottage with the exception of the basement. This is to remain private (door is intentionally left open for air circulation). There is a small shed and a large garage, both of which are also private. Access to either/both is not included in the rental of the cottage. Other things to note Lodging Tax - Airbnb automatically collects Minnesota Sales Tax and Local Sales Tax. Lake County (MN) Lodging Tax (4%) is also required, which Airbnb has yet to start collecting automatically. We'll request this payment via the "Resolution Center," which you'll receive prior to your stay. Per Lake County Planning & Zoning regulations (Sec. 6.16), the following must be provided to us in advance of stay for every guest occupying the cottage: - name - phone number - home address The vehicle license plate number of all overnight guests using the property, along with issuing state, is also required. Only the guests included on the reservation are allowed on the property. If more guests arrive at check-in than expected, all guests will be required to immediately vacate the property without a refund. We do have four (4) cameras on the exterior of the property [front door, driveway, side yard, & lakeside]. If there are any changes to the interior or exterior that'll make the arrival of the guests behind you any different than your own, you will be charged accordingly (e.g., stained/damaged furnishings or flooring, missing items, etc.). Do not peel bark from the birch trees on the property or harm any plants, trees, etc. on the property. Please let nature remain and enjoy it as-is. FOR DOGS - two (2) dog maximum. Dog(s) to be kenneled when left alone at the cottage. Dog poop MUST be picked-up prior to departure. We have an independent contract that must be signed and returned to us BEFORE you can access the cottage. This is emailed roughly 1-2 weeks ahead of your stay. You're welcome to request a copy in advance. The indoor fireplace is NOT available for use. No exceptions and significant fine if violated (see details in 'Welcome Guide' emailed with the contract). The cottage has Dish Network satellite TV. There may be outages due to weather and/or obstructions. Please park at least 10' behind the dish.

Retreat to this secluded cabin, resting on a hill along the Knife River nestled in 15 acres. You'll be met with a spacious, yet cozy environment with a bedroom and a separate loft area. The cabin features a sauna, a beautiful stone shower, two bathrooms and a tub. The south side of the land runs along the knife river with an overlook, perfect for the sunrise. The land is yours to explore. We have fallen in love with this space, and we truly hope you do too. The space Retreat to the Tavous cabin, resting on a hill along the Knife River hidden within 15 acres of stunning nature where you can relax and explore. Located only 25 minutes away from Canal Park and 10 minutes south of Two Harbors. You will be a short 3 mile drive to a Lake Superior beach, and a 1.5 miles drive away from a trailhead of a beautiful 5 mile hike. The cabin itself is spacious, yet cozy. It holds one bedroom with a king size bed and a separate loft area with a queen and a twin bed. There are two bathrooms, a large tub, and a beautiful stone shower located below the loft next to the in-home sauna. **the two extra beds are located in a loft where you will have to access a sturdy and safe ship ladder. ** In the winter months, guests will have access to the garage where two cars can park. We have our driveway, front and side of the house plowed when three or more inches fall. Please ensure your cars are in the garage during this time. You will have access to 15 acres of wooded and open space, as well as lots of state land bordering the west side of the property. The south side of the property runs along the knife river, which you can access via a trail at the bottom of the driveway hill. There is a path to a peaceful overlook of the knife river located behind the front fire pit. It’s the perfect spot to watch the sun rise while enjoying your morning coffee or tea. The land is yours to engage with and explore. Please be respectful of our neighbors' property, which are all marked on the map in the cabin manual. We have fallen in love with this space, and we truly hope you do too. In the event guests are unable to make it up/down the driveway, recovery and/or towing will be at the guest's expense. We do have a plow service, who tend to the driveway, front and side of the cabin.

No smoking anywhere on property. The space Guest Suite is a private space with own entrance, but shares a wall with Host's main living quarters. Cozy River Bend Cottage - Walk to Beach/Marina

Entire walk-in basement space is yours. Two bedrooms, 4 twin beds in EACH room, FULLY stocked kitchen, dining table w/7chairs, bathroom (no tub), living room. Cozy, clean, comfy. Fully stocked with all you need for a great stay-coffee bar, campfire area in the yard. Easy, fast access to the scenic North Shore or Duluth’s attractions. The paved Lakewalk is just steps away. Quiet, safe neighborhood. The space The space isn't perfect. :) The house was built over 110 years ago, and the basement has gone through various additions and evolutions over those years. The ceilings are typical (7 foot) basement ceilings. There are exposed concrete pillars, and the carpeted living room floor slopes downwards slightly. But it was all new in 2021. It has a cozy feel and almost every amenity you can think of! There’s a table with 7 chairs in the kitchen. Two identical bedrooms each have two sets of bunk beds, so there are 4 twin beds per room. I do not allow more than 8 guests per night. No parties allowed. However you are able to have other guests visit. Please note- Above your basement space is our two-story family home. The noise can carry downward AND upward. Please be considerate of guests and observe quiet hours after 10pm and we will do the same. This is a very private space because it’s on two city lots with the creek and wooded area on one side of the house. We are lucky to be at the end of the alley and there is no through-traffic in the back. Airbnb assigned this as “lakefront” or on water- this is not on the shore of the lake by foot. It is a few minute drive or a short bike or walkable to “secret beach” as the locals call it. Ask me! Guest access This unit is a walk in basement with a keypad entry. It is NOT handicapped accessible. The only way to get in to the space is by walking down a few stairs. The access is in the rear of the home, by driving through the alley. The upper deck is host space. PLEASE NOTE: NO parking on Superior Street. None. No cars. No trucks. No trailers. Parking is in the back ONLY, as a permit is required to park on Superior Street because we are two blocks from the high school, where parking is tight. No parking on Superior Street because you’d have to walk through a very narrow space between my house and the neighbors house to get to your door, which is in the back. You’d be passing right by all of our bedroom windows and all of their bedroom windows and we don’t love that. Historically this has been a problem so please don’t park on Superior Street. There is a concrete parking slab in the back with room for you to park 2-4 cars, depending how large they are. Do not come to the front door of my home on Superior street. Do not park on Superior Street. Note-YOUR PRIVATE SPACE IS IN THE BASEMENT OF THE HOUSE. Other things to note I don’t charge a cleaning fee because I ask that guests: -strip beds of all USED sheets and pillow cases and put in a pile -put used towels in the laundry basket provided -take out trash and recycle before leaving -RINSE dishes and leave in the sink. I will wash them. The coffee bar is stocked and includes a Keurig coffee maker with a variety of Keurig pods. There is also a regular coffee pot, (coffee not provided because I provide pods) a coffee grinder that grinds coffee beans, and a French press. Powdered creamer, regular white sugar and Splenda is provided. *Bring your own coffee beans or ground coffee if you prefer something besides the Keurig pods. There is also a large variety of hot teas and often hot cocoa. Also in the kitchen and fridge are usually a variety of condiments you can use: Salt and pepper Cinnamon sugar mixture Ketchup Mustard Soy sauce White Sugar Misc. condiments, sauces etc The fridge has a continuous ice maker and generally there is a gallon plastic container filled with ice. Help yourself to anything in the fridge or on the shelves! There are PLENTY of blankets, and I mean plenty, but please do not bring the blankets outside! They attract bugs, twigs and leaves, and also absorb smoke from the fire! There are “Tonka toasters” and roasting sticks for hot dogs and marshmallows at the fire. Plenty of lawn chairs by the fire, a metal outdoor table, cut fire wood, fire starters, some newspaper, matches and lighters. You can take recycle paper, cardboard boxes and any burnable paper products from the recycle bin in the driveway to use as a fire starter too. There is a Bluetooth speaker and two battery operated lantern/lights for use outside- be sure to turn off and bring inside when you’re done. There is a trampoline up on the side yard the kiddos can use- at your own risk and parent discretion. Four hammock chairs and two hammocks in the yard as well. Not pictured as they move around a bit over the summer :)

This house is in the best location in our opinion. The neighborhood is walkable with Hiking, Biking, & Lit Nordic ski trails, & Brewery Restaurant just blocks away. there is a grocery store in walking distance ..cute coffee and ice cream shop just blocks away or go further and take the Duluth Bike trail all the way to Canal park or all the way through Duluth.
