Guests will also enjoy the abundant wildlife of this quiet location. Deer and different types of birds often come to graze in the open fields each morning and evening. The home has a galley kitchen with granite counters, stainless steel appliances, dishwasher, Keurig and drip coffee maker, toaster, full pots and pans for cooking and hopefully anything else a family might need; there is dining/breakfast room with windows on each side for stunning views plus outdoor seating for dining. The family room has views out over the deck to the water, door to the deck, and smart tv for nightly movies. On the main level, you will find a room with king bed overlooking the lawn with water views and smart tv, another bedroom with queen-size bed, and a shared updated bathroom with walk-in shower, and laundry. The upstairs is cozy, with two bedrooms with water views, queen-sized beds, both with smart tv’s, one with crib, and an updated bathroom with a bathtub. Outside guest can enjoy a propane fire pit, Adirondack chairs, sun loungers, outdoor dining and propane grill. The property comes with two dedicated parking places. Many people choose to stay in Southwest Harbor during their visit to Acadia National Park for its convenient location and more relaxed pace. Southwest Harbor is situated just west of the southern entrance to Somes Sound on Mount Desert Island. It is the largest municipality on the island's southwestern "quiet side." The town is a hub of activity, with various great restaurants, shops, galleries, and eateries worth exploring. Some of these include the charming Little Notch Bakery, the renowned Red Sky, the local favorite Peter Trouts, The Cygnet Gallery, Cornerstone Gallery, Beals Lobster, Sawyers, Cafe Dry Dock, Tom Cat Tide, The Store, Southwest Cycle, and many more! Many come to Mount Desert Island to visit Acadia National Park and enjoy its beauty. You can get a yearly pass to the park or pay as you go. Our suggestion is to get the yearly that you can visit other national parks. Some of our favorite trails, which are mostly easy and dog friendly, are Asticou and Jordan Pond Path, Little Harbor Brook Trail, Carriage Trail Loop, Wonderland, Ship Harbor Trail, Echo Lake Trail, and many more. Our suggestion is to download the All Trails App and search for your skill level. Other exciting things to do is to go on a whale watching tour, ride the ferries to neighboring islands like Cranberry or Little Cranberry and explore those. Visit the bustling town of Bar Harbor and the smaller villages around the island. You can do all this by car or use the Island Explorer buss. Shore access is at 2-98 Cable Crossing RD because the shore line at the house is a drop off and can be dangerous but you can still enjoy picturesque views at the house. We walk to all of these locations all the time! The yard is NOT fenced. There are a lot of deer and wildlife please respect them. This is a quiet neighborhood with many full time residents please do not walk through their yards. There are window units for the AC, window units are only in place June 1- September 30th to minimize heating loss. We have a crib in one of the upstairs bedrooms, we have extra linens for the crib but if you prefer something specific please bring. Please note that this home was built in 1950 the stairs are skinny and a bit steep. The laundry is in one of the closets in the queen-sized downstairs bedroom, but there is an additional closet for clothes; the dedicated parking spaces are directly in front of the garage spaces, but there is no access to the garage, if you are bringing bikes please reach out for garage access. This home is on septic, and nothing besides toilet paper can be flushed. This includes anything advertised as flushable, "flushable wipes," and food waste down the disposal. There is no access to the basement. There is an easement driveway to the main home directly behind Hard Aground please do not block the driveway with cars or go through their gates as their dogs may be out. Locally owned by an Island family of several generations, Breakwater is a completely separate, private apartment in a newer duplex. Located on an elevated property across the marina, offering wonderful views of Southwest Harbor and across to the Cranberry Isles. Walk into town and enjoy shopping & dining in the village of Southwest Harbor and leaving your car behind. Acadia National Park and more than a dozen trailheads are within a 5 min. drive from the house with a bus stop across the street The space The house is a duplex with the owner living directly next door (across the driveway). Summer rental rates include all 4 bedrooms with the entire downstairs apartment and the private large deck. Summer months are for full weeks only, with Saturday afternoon check in time. Fall, Winter, and Spring rentals are more flexible for check in and out dates since we and our housekeeper have more availability during the week with kids at school. Well behaved and well mannered dogs are allowed with an extra pet fee of $20/stay AFTER DISCUSSING WITH OWNERS FIRST. We have rules for the pups that we want to go over with folks before they bring their dogs including not leaving them alone at all since this is a duplex. There are lots of dining options with your pups on MDI. Guest access The downstairs apartment and deck is for guest's exclusive usage. The large space under the deck is shared with the owners and is good for bicycles, kayaks, etc. The basement is not for regular use with the rental, but we can store something in there for you and lock it up if you wish. Luckily, there is really no need to lock things up in our safe neighborhood however.

Historic Bass Harbor Lighthouse is only a 5 min drive away. The Swans Island Ferry is also just down the road and provides year-round service to Swans Island. Southwest Harbor is a 5 minutes drive and offers several restaurants and shops. The west side trails of Acadia are close by and provide a quieter alternative to the popular trails of the east side. Popular attractions on the in the main part of Acadia include Thunder Hole, lunch at the Jordan Pond House with their famous popovers, a sunset on the summit of Cadillac Mountain, Sand Beach, a carriage ride at Wildwood Stables, and driving the entirety of the Park Loop Road itself. 45 miles of groomed carriage roads in the park allow cyclists to tour the park without the hassle of automobiles. Popular rides include the easy loop around Witch Hole Pond, the moderate loop around Eagle Lake, and the climb to the summit of Day Mountain. 120 miles of hiking trails navigate the park as well, with a wide range of difficulty that can accommodate any skill level. If you want to be near the action of an active and interesting harbor, this is the place for you. You will have a front row seat to spectacular morning sunrises over the harbor, the comings and goings of the fishermen and the many boats docked at the marina and anchored in the harbor. This spacious four bedroom, two and a half bath home is located at the Great Harbor Marina just half a mile from downtown Southwest Harbor. Walk to restaurants, art galleries, specialty shops and more. The space Our home is professionally cleaned between each visit and all linens and towels are laundered in hot water and bleach. We use Clorox Cleaning Products and Lysol spray. Our cleaning products are always available for you to use. Located on the edge of the harbor in what is known as the old coal wharf, this beautifully restored building has a stunning view from every window. You will be able to see all the boats coming and going in and out of the harbor. Walk down the ramp to the boats and meet the local fishermen as they unload their catch. Cook fresh lobster in the fully stocked kitchen or use the outside grill. Guest access You will enjoy four bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. A large dining table seats 8 adults comfortably with french doors that open to the water view. The master bedroom also has french doors that look out on to the harbor. The space is located on the second floor of a newly renovated building. The bottom floor is home to two offices of a small marine engineering firm. Other things to note Pets are welcomed but must be walked on a leash and cleaned up after. We are located next to Dysarts Great Harbor Marina. Positioned on the quiet side of Mount Desert Island, the village of Southwest Harbor offers a variety of recreation sites, transportation options, and eateries and is a short 5-minute walk from the Marina.

Charming 4 bedroom, 2 bath traditional wooden cabin situated on 8 acres in Southwest Harbor. Walk into town easily for restaurants, galleries and boutiques. Or walk to the town dock for an adventure to another island. Ferries leave daily to explore outer areas. Acadia easily explored from here, with parts of Southwest Harbor National park land. Ask Marc for a hiking map to explore Acadia. No pets. The space The Bluehouse is a cabin on a private estate with other homes. It is a welcoming place to come home to after a day exploring the island. The Property has a beautifully wooded and maintained forest with a grassy field by the pond to play lawn games. Wood stove is not in operation anymore. You can use the normal heater and set to any temperature you desire. Guest access There is a front loading Whirlpool Duet washer/dryer in the Hospitality Suite in another building. The Hospitality Suite has all the pamphlets from the local chamber and maps to help you plan your stay. There are also hundreds of DVDs in the Hospitality Suite you are welcome to borrow. The 'duck shed' by the pond has lawn games that can be used on the grassy field. Other things to note The TV is a smart TV. DVDs are available. No cable. Bluehouse Cottage in Acadia, 5 min walk into town

This recently renovated cottage has a beautiful coastal vibe. Modern amenities come together with vintage accents such as shiplap, hemlock beams and original fireplace and chimney creating a quintessential Maine cottage. Large deck with outdoor dining and lounging and a large yard make it great for one or two families. The house is located two blocks from the town center so its close to restaurants and shops. The space This house has 4 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. One king bedroom is located on the first floor with an ensuite bathroom. The other 3 bedrooms and full bathroom are located on the second floor. Multiple sittings areas give bigger groups lots of space to spread out.

Located in a quiet Bass Harbor neighborhood, just a two minute walk to the water. Four bedrooms 2 and half bathrooms. Laundry on site and a large living room and kitchen for gathering. Central Air. Dog Friendly. The space This is a large house, located within walking distance to beautiful Bass Harbor. Just a mile from Acadia National Park, Seawall, Ships Harbor hiking trail and Bass Harbor Lighthouse. There is a king bed in the master bedroom with a private bath. 3Queen beds upstairs with a shared bath and a half bath off the kitchen.

First Mate, Bass Harbor, Minutes from Acadia

Uniquely perched above the water, Tidewatch offers magnificent views of the harbor, mountains and surrounding landscape from 3 sides of the house. Every room has a water view! 3 bedrooms plus a detached sleeping cabin on the shore, accommodates 8 people. Large 35'x 30' deck has 3 seating areas which include outdoor dining table & chairs, propane fire pit area with chairs and lounge chair area. The dock is a great spot to fish or launch your kayak. Truly unique! The space The main living area is on the top floor taking advantage of the truly stunning views. Second floor deck provides a small outdoor vista for viewing the sites while the spiral staircase affords access to the massive deck below. The bedrooms are located on the first floor and the master bedroom has double doors leading to the deck. The house has 2 full bathrooms, one on each floor. Wake up with the sun should you choose, and wander out on to the deck with your favorite morning beverage and watch the wildlife. A pair of eagles can often be seen across the way on John's Island. This area of the harbor is tidal so twice every 24 hours the water will recede allowing you to see the harbor floor and the wildlife that searches for food when it's low tide.

Guest access Guests have access to the Hospitality Suite where there are DVDs and pamphlets to help you plan your stay. Other things to note The TV is a smart TV. DVDs are available. No cable. Caleb's Cottage was designed and built in 2003 to take full advantage of this ideal location, with direct access to the water, dock, mooring and gorgeous views of the harbor. Near the end of a private road, you will feel the peacefulness of a true get-away. Steps away from hiking in Acadia National Park, a 5 minute drive to the charming town of Southwest Harbor, and just 25 minutes from bustling Bar Harbor. The space Caleb's Cottage features clean, open and bright rooms overlooking the ocean, a fully equipped kitchen and all of the modern amenities to enhance your stay. Washer, dryer, dishwasher, gas stove, outdoor gas grill, microwave, TV, cable, DVD, high speed internet (wifi), and heat. Great for boaters with both dock and mooring access. Four bedrooms, including a bunk room, makes it ideal for families and groups up to 6 adults and 2 children. Guest access The entire Cottage, porch, parking and lawn is for the exclusive use of the guests. The dock is a private dock which may be occasionally shared with any family members that are staying at our cabin next door. (NOTE: Temporary dock access has been given to our next door neighbors at the end of the road. They had their dock destroyed in a winter storm and are using ours to access their sailboat in the harbor until they can rebuild their dock. ) Other things to note Nearby Activities: Walk just a few minutes to hiking trails, or drive (or take a free bus) around Mt. Dessert Island where you can stop to hike up mountains, swim in lakes, view the rocky coast, or visit Thunder Hole. You can hike (or drive) up Cadillac Mountain, the highest mountain in Acadia National park,which is one of dozens of mountains to climb. From here you can look down to Bar Harbor and the Porcupine Islands, the Cranberry Islands, and much of Mt. Desert Island.

Oceanfront cottage, private dock, steps to Acadia

My father purchased this property in the early 1960s because he loved the views of the mountains and he loved calling Southwest Harbor, Maine home. My husband and I also call Southwest Harbor home. We renovated my parents house so that our children and their children could return to visit the island they once called home. When they are not visiting we would like to offer you the opportunity to enjoy a home away from home that is close to everything Acadia. The space My husband and I renovated the main house in 2023 and the walk in basement in 2024. The upper level has 3 bedrooms (master has a queen, second bedroom has a queen and the third has 2 twins), 2 (full) bathrooms and an open concept living room, dining room and kitchen and a large wrap around deck. The lower level has a great room (pool table, poker table, sectional sofa (sleeper) and 65” 4K smart tv, mini fridge and coffee bar) office, bathroom (with shower) and a bedroom (queen). Please note that the 2 levels are separate. There is no indoor staircase between the levels. This property also has ample outdoor space for an evening game of whiffle ball, corn hole or frisbee.

(Lobster pots and implements – and a gleaming Weber grill – at the ready!) 97 Clark Point is also delightful for children, and especially teens. Tucked away on the third floor is kid-friendly space with two futon couches that turn into full-size beds. A seven-minute stroll into town (or a two-minute bike ride!) brings them to basketball courts, brick-oven pizza, and ice cream, favorites of locals and visitors alike. Our restored cottages are the types of homes we seek out ourselves in our own travels around the world. ******************************************************* PLEASE READ ANTIQUE HOME DETAILS BEFORE BOOKING: This is an antique cottage on the coast of Maine. It is an antique on purpose, not by accident. So while we just put her through a four month restoration, this is a custom restoration effort—not a Home Depot special. We retained this vintage character because many people come to Maine seeking an experience that melds the beautiful coastal outdoors with our unique maritime history, New England architecture, and authentic vintage appeal. We restored this home with these guests in mind. Over a century ago, this house wasn’t built to look like any other house on the street, it was proudly custom-built by Maine craftsmen. Architecturally, the home is considered a classic New Englander construction—similar to the one next door, and others along the Maine coast. It was, however, built slightly differently than the one next door in the sense that it started its life as a sturdily-built sea-captain's house, built with a granite foundation and dressed up with decorative cornice brackets under the eves that resemble waves in color and shape. Once inside you’ll notice that the walls of this house are original restored plaster and lathe, so they are NOT perfectly square. They are not perfectly square, because they are not modern drywall. The walls were laid by hand over a hundred years ago. We restored the original plaster finish and gave everything 3-5 coats of fresh paint in neutral, historic, fresh Benjamin Moore color. To that end, we didn’t rip out the eight-inch baseboard with crown molding—we sanded and repainted it because it adds to the home’s unique character. Same with the decorative window trim that graces the beautiful original antique windows. The windows are original leaded glass, five feet tall by three feet wide. They seem to stretch from the floor to the ceiling, and they let in incredible amounts of light. We had custom-built screens made for them so you can open them to let in the sea breeze. All of the windows work—but they are all original. They are original on purpose because they just don’t make them like this anymore. Harborside’s floors are original hand-milled pine, locally known as wide-board pine and sometimes King Pine, or Pumpkin Pine. These floors are a treasured characteristic of antique Maine homes. When restoring them, we stripped them down of several layers of vinyl and carpet and paint to bring them back to that original condition, and then, in keeping with Maine tradition, we refinished the floors in traditional Tung oil. These are not glossy pre-fab plastic or vinyl floors. They are 100% Maine pine and thus imperfect after being in use for over a century. The gaps that you may see between the boards are due to the fact that when these floors were built, they were meant to expand and contract with extremes of coastal Maine weather, and they still do—125 years later. We hope you enjoy our home for the coastal Maine antique it is meant to be.
