After cool nights, especially in winter, the pool can lose heat overnight. Therefore, it is normal for the water temperature to be well below 85°F in the morning and it may take several hours for it to warm up again. The pool heater only works when the pool pump is running and automatically turns off once the water reaches a temperature of approximately 85°F. For safety reasons and to protect the equipment in extremely cold outdoor temperatures, the pool heater may not be activated at all.
