ELI'S SUITE Eli's is a one bedroom suite which was added to the original historic structure by a family of preservationists. The original windmill and cypress water tank grace the private limestone terrace. Inside, architectural artifacts from around the world work to create a haven from the ordinary. The cast iron mantle from a Philadelphia mansion, antique carved wood sculpture bed frame and antler chandelier all grace the natural integrity of the limestone wall. Featured in the bath is a two person jetted tub which is set in a glass block wall allowing at the same time private and natural light. KRISTIN'S SUITE The original settlers' home was ingeniously added on to just four decades ago but retained the feel and integrity of the 1800's. As you enter the foyer paved with D'Hanis tile, a warm sense of history greets you. The bedroom/sitting room is magnificently large, rising to twenty foot ceilings at the peak. A wood burning fireplace provides warmth near the king size iron bed. Kristin's bath has a long and colorful history. In 1885, the Sheriff of Fredericksburg was the home's original builder and owner, John Walter. An unfortunate fire destroyed the local jail and what better place to house the lawbreakers than the Sheriff's stone barn. Iron bars were added over the windows to prevent early checkout and they remain today. This former barn and jail has limestone walls and a triangular jetted tub for two. Kristin's large private terrace is anchored by an ancient ivy covered pecan tree and a softly bubbling fountain. Relaxing and inviting for two, it is the perfect space for convivial gatherings. Nestled on an acre of land, 1½ blocks off of Main Street, Abby's Place is your peaceful retreat minutes from downtown. Separate bedroom & living rm in each suite. King beds in Suite 1 & 3. Queens in 2, 4 & 5. Queen sofa sleepers & TVs in each of 5 living areas. Antique furnishings throughout. Suite 3 has 65” TV, fireplace, exercise room, large kitchen with double oven & dining area to seat 14. Propane grill, 2 wood-burning fire pits & windmill. Suites 1-3 are connected. Suites 4 & 5 are behind. The space We have fallen in love with Fredericksburg and our Abby's Place! Suite 1 is a rock house built in the 1880s. Suite 2 was added on in 1920s. Suites 3, 4 and 5 were added in the mid 1990s and a bed and breakfast property was created on an acre in the heart of town. Lots of charm and comfort to start with and then we had such fun lovingly furnishing and decorating each unit with a different theme that seemed fitting. Abby’s Place is conveniently located in town near the heart of the shopping but it sits on an entire acre of land with a windmill! We love sitting outside in the morning in the rocking chairs on the front porch of suites 4 and 5, listening to the windmill and watching the birds. Sitting outside at night by the fire pit behind suite 3, we are amazed at how many stars you can see in the sky even though you are in town. A second firepit is just outside the doors to suites 4 and 5. For groups, suite 3 with its large kitchen/dining/living area becomes the Gathering Place. The kitchen is a great place to hang out or cook for the entire group in its fully equipped kitchen (including a double oven). The spacious living area in suite 3 has antique furniture, a sleeper sofa, 65” flat screen & gas fireplace. The dining area and kitchen adjoin in an open floor plan and have 2 dining tables which will seat 14. The exercise room has an elliptical machine, yoga mat, step, chin-up bar and light weights. The back patio behind suite 3 features propane grill & a wood-burning fire pit. Board games, cards and books are in the living area of suite 3. Outdoor games (horseshoes, washers, bean bag toss and more) are in the closet in suite 3 and can be set up outside. We are only a block and 1/2 off of Main Street on the east end of town. The Nimitz Museum is only 1 &1/2 miles away. It is a long stroll but one we enjoy. Guest access You will have full and exclusive access to the entire property! Other things to note The suites can be rented in smaller groups. Suites 1, 2 & 3 are ideal for 3 couples/families. Suites 4 & 5 are ideally situated for 2 couples.
