This area has a long, iconic train history, with trains still running at times in Shenandoah, Luray and other towns. A train occasionally runs behind the house on tracks that stretch along the base of the mountain, offering a fun, authentic local vibe without interrupting your peaceful stay. Welcome to The Roost! The cabin is a great home base to explore the area this summer. It's a short drive to Luray and Shenandoah National Park. Enjoy the community river lot 1 mile from the cabin. There are wineries, breweries, caverns, & hikes nearby. Visit Massanutten Resort for their indoor waterpark, horseback riding, mini golf, ziplining, or their full service spa. Alternatively, wind down at home and BBQ on the grill or roast marshmallows around the firepit while star-gazing. The space Master bedroom - Queen bed- Private bathroom with double sinks & shower. 2nd bedroom - Queen bed - hall bath with shower/bath combo. 3rd bedroom - 2 Twin beds - hall bath with shower/bath combo. (Twin beds more suitable for children rather than adults). The cabin is best suited for 4 adults and 2 kids due to bed arrangements and hot water. The dining area is perfect for family dinners and there is a screened-in gazebo a few stepsoff the back deck as well as a picnic table, propane grill, and firepit. When it's time to unwind inside, connect to your favorite personal streaming service on the smart TV with blu-ray DVD player. There are DVDs, books, and classic board games. Please be mindful that there is limited data for streaming. The area provides activities for all! Just 1 mile from the cabin, head down to our private river access for fishing/tubing/grilling. Or venture out into town: 15 minutes to Shenandoah River Adventures for kayaking/canoeing 25 minutes to Luray Caverns 25 minutes to Massanutten Resort for skiing, golfing, spa 35 minutes to Shenandoah National Park (Thornton Gap entrance) 40 minutes to James Madison University PLEASE NOTE: *The cabin is 1 mile up a steep, winding hill thus we REQUIRE 4x4 or AWD in inclement weather, to include snow and heavy rains. (Certified service dogs are welcome.) *No parties. *No smoking indoors (cigarettes, vape, pipe, etc) *Fireplace is seasonal (Oct 1st to Mar 1st). *We do not provide firewood for the outdoor firepit. *There is motion-activated camera at the front door. *Due to the nature of the mountains, WiFi is satellite which can max out on data or lose connection during bad weather. Please stream with consideration. The internet is not suitable for video calls and gaming. *Please conserve water. The hot water may run out if there is more than one source running at a time. i.e. you can't run washing machine, dishwasher, or showers at the same time. *Cell service is spotty depending on your provider. Please be prepared to lose service. The cabin does have WiFi. *There is a chance that you will encounter wildlife, such as insects (stink bugs, spiders, mosquitos) and bears. We are surrounded by forest. Please do not leave trash outside or approach large animals. If you need to dump excess trash prior to departure, there is a local dump. If not, the cleaners will dispose of your trash for you at the end of your stay. (Compacting/Recycling Center: 1310 Shenandoah River Road / Shenandoah, VA 22849 / Monday - 7 am - 4 pm, Tuesday - Saturday - 8 am - 5 pm). *My property manager lives nearby. If there is an emergency or maintenance issue, we have local support. *The check-out time of 11:00 AM is firm to ensure the cleaning staff has adequate time to make the home sparkling clean for the next guests. I will charge $60 an hour that a guest is late for my cleaner's time. If you plan to visit during icy or snowy conditions, it is required that you bring or rent a 4-wheel drive vehicle. This will ensure your safety and make navigating the road to the cabin much easier. Being prepared with the right vehicle is crucial for a comfortable and safe journey. While the road to the cabin may present some challenges, it's all part of the adventure. Many of our guests appreciate the secluded and off-the-beaten-path feel that our location provides. About this space Forget your worries in this relaxing, spacious getaway with river access on the bottom of the mountain. Our new build log cabin sits on 2 acres on top of the mountain. It is surrounded by oak and pine trees with a scenic mountain view overlooking the Shenandoah Valley and Massanutten 4 Season Resort. The space The cabin is a new build log home establish in September 2023. The 1400 sqf 1 level ranch style cabin has a spacious open living and kitchen area, 3 bedrooms and 2 full size bathrooms. 1 bedroom has a bunkbed with 2 twin size beds on the bottom and a full size bed on the top. The other bedrooms are furnished with queen size beds. All beds have a 6inch memory foam mattress. The kitchen is equipped with a Keurig dual coffee machine, slow cooker, air fryer, toaster, small blender, all kinds of pots and pans, plates, cups, glasses, wine glasses, silverware, cooking utensils and more. Have a glass of cold fresh well water, the healthiest water you could ever have. It is UV light treated and ready to drink and cook with. The dining area features a live edge table with 6 chairs. In the living room area you can get comfortable on 2 sofas and a love seat with a live edge coffee table and watch TV on a Roku TV powered by T- Mobile 5 G Gateway internet. Enjoy a stunning view from the front porch furnished with 2 sets of outdoor furniture. Have fun BBQing under a bar gazebo on a griddle/ gas top grill and enjoy your meal under a gazebo that is furnished with an outdoor dining table and chairs. Please note that our cabin is located in the woods/mountain area. With this being said, you will at some point in the season/ annually see some ladybugs and stink bugs around the house. Whether boating, swimming, or fishing, there are only 27 (stairway) steps between you and the river (two kayaks are available for your use) And you don't have to be an ornithological expert to love the sound of birds chirping as you sit on the screened porch enjoying your morning coffee/tea. You may well even see the great blue heron who frequently perches on the lowest step off the deck. With three bedrooms, 1-1/2 baths, full kitchen, and large living indoor area, there is plenty of indoor living space. However, you will likely want to spend your time enjoying the property's many outdoor spaces: * lower deck area (~8 steps to river) * screened porch overlooking river, * upper deck with the stairs leading to river, * the shaded front porch, * the huge open yard, * the firepit, and oh yes, the river itself! Guest access Guests have full access to the house and yard. We have a locked furnace room, water pumping ( work room) and shed. These store our personal belongings and maintenance items. Other things to note No parties or gatherings: You can thank previous Airbnb guests for this one. Absolutely no parties or gatherings will be tolerated and guests in violation will be asked to leave immediately with no refund. Only booked guests can stay on the property and use onsite amenities. Please see further details in the Additional Rules section. No pets: This is not a restriction we enjoy having to impose, as we are pet lovers. But it is a restriction borne from experience, and out of necessity for our neighbors and our future guests. So, with apologies to our guests' beloved four-legged family members, there can be no exceptions to this policy. Hopefully, we will never have to, but we will seek full reimbursement for costs related to guests' pets being on the property. Linens and towels: we do not have laundry facilities and the cost to do laundry is a high cost we would have to pass onto guests (approx 2hours at laundromat @$20 hour and cost of laundromat approx $10). We have sheets and towels available for our out of country traveler and if a guest does not have them. When possible we ask for prior warning and help in defraying costs. There is no working washer/dryer ( we tried to have one installed but multiple reason why it wouldn’t work) There are laundry lines outside where you can hang clothes to dry. There is a public laundromat in the Town of Shenandoah. WiFi and Cell reception: the house has a tmobile wifi hotspot, which quite efficiently handles internet and tv streaming. Sprint/Tmobile is the one cell provider of which you can be assured very good reception at the Riverhouse. Other cell provider reception is oddly random (e.g., two recent guests had Verizon reception (on the same plan), their iPhone had terrible reception, their android had flawless reception). Most guests report at least some reception at the house, and all can get a good signal if they are at the top of our road (about 1/3 mi) Water: The house has well water. The entire filtration system was replaced recently, so the water is quite fine to drink. We love the taste. But it is well water, and some folks prefer to get bottled water rather than drink well water, so just want to provide that heads up. Also, in re: water. When the water runs a long time (e.g., a number of showers in a row), sometimes there is a sulfur smell. This is because the filtration system can't keep up with the large quantity of water flowing through the hot water heater. The sulfur smell is not dangerous in any way, just noticeable for little while. It dissipates quickly. And, depending upon the number of people in your group and/or the time and length of showers, you may not even notice this at all. There were some property thefts in the neighborhood last summer, and given that the Riverhouse has a number of guest amenities which could be appealing to a thief (kayaks, etc.), we and our neighbors are working together to monitor each other's property with both cameras and human vigilance. While you cannot see the neighbors from the cabin, they are there. Please observe quite hours between 10pm-6am as required by county ordinance. Please dispose of tied trash bags in the outdoor metal container at the rear of the house. Do not leave trash unattended outdoors and please maintain a clean environment indoors. Wildlife, including bears, will be attracted to open trash and food debris. You are in a rural, mountain, outdoor setting. Bugs are a way of life. The cabin is treated for pests regularly, but we make no guarantees that you won't see an occasional bug. You are on vacation, or a getaway trip. We do not expect you to be the maid. We do, however, expect the home to not be left exceedingly dirty. Any extra cleaning above standard will be billed to the guest. Please be mindful of the furnishings and amenities. Any damage will be billed to the guest. Please follow the hot tub rules posted on the house next to the hot tub. No soaps, bubbles, oils, etc. allowed in the hot tub. Please keep the cover on the hot tub when not in use. Any damage or additional cleaning to the hot tub will be billed to the guest. Please be mindful of the cancellation policy. Trip insurance is recommended. We have monthly lawn and pest preventative maintenance to ensure you have a comfortable stay. These vendors may come on site to perform work during your stay. We will inform you ahead of time, so you are aware. Their presence will be as minimally intrusive as possible.

After passing through the common foyer area, the stairs take you to the private loft apartment. Guest access The Depot is located on the old-town main street. You enter through an old storefront transformed into a shared foyer/entrance area. This area has 2 chairs and a bistro table where you are welcome to enjoy your morning coffee and views. Both the main entry door and the studio apartment door have electronic keypad locks. You will receive the access codes the morning of your arrival.

There are 2 boat docks on the property with a public boat landing 1/4 mile from this home, a large yard to enjoy also with new fire pit wood is provided. There is also 1 canoe 2 kayaks, life jackets, and paddles to use during your stay. Enjoy the hot tub year-round located on the large front porch overlooking the mountains and beautiful south fork of the Shenandoah River. This is a pet-friendly home with 2 pets max unless otherwise pre-approved, pet fees are $100 per pet per booking, Airbnb only charges for 1 pet so I will send a money request for the 2nd pet that needs to be paid as soon as posable. Following the winding driveway through a railroad tunnel you reach Fox Creek Lodge. 15mi to Massanutten Ski & Water Park, Luray Caverns and 17mi to Shenandoah National Park/Skyline Drive. Many wineries & breweries and outdoor activity companies to help with river tubing, canoeing, fishing and hot tub. The space Your vacation experience begins as you drive past the Shenandoah River. You then turn onto our winding driveway (keep left up the hill) and travel through the property’s 160ft railroad tunnel. As you pull up to the lodge the property boasts of its uniqueness with the natural stone and cedar siding with balcony overlooking the seasonal pond and firepit. Backyard offers a Gazebo lounge and hot tub. The lodge features an open living and dining concept. Dining table seats 8 and can accommodate additional pulled up chairs. There is also a bar top with 3 stools and wine/beer fridge that opens to the custom kitchen. 2.5 bathrooms and 4 bedrooms sleeping 10. Additional sleeping arrangements are possible with pull-out sofa. There are baby gates and a Pack 'n Play for your use while staying at Fox Creek Lodge. Enjoy the front decks & balcony overlooking the seasonal pond and railroad tracks. Backyard offers a Gazebo to relax and space to play yard games. Foosball, 2 sets of Corn-hole, Croquet and Frisbee are a few of the entertainment items available on the property. The home offers a fireplace on the first floor to enjoy in the winter months. The master en-suite features a Tempur-Pedic queen and a newly modeled bath with craftsman vanity made from reclaimed wood from the property. The three remaining bedrooms down the hall share the hall toilet. The hall toilet and shower occupy separate rooms for your convenience. Bedroom two is a smaller room featuring a Tempur-Pedic queen bed. Bedroom three Is a smaller room featuring a queen bed. Bedroom four features two double beds with two additional twin beds in the loft areas of bedroom four. The main living area shares the dining space as you enter the lodge. The primary large stone fireplace is located here for your enjoyment. There is a second living space with sofa and television on the second level to the right of the stairs. As well as a sitting/game space with Foosball to the top left of the stairs before you exit to the balcony. The large front deck offers a gas grill and outdoor eating space. The three trails crisscrossing the property allow you to enjoy the forest and its mountain view and streams after a heavy rain. There is a property map provided as well as local attraction brochures for you to take once you are at the lodge. Guest access Guests have access to the entire home and property; the hiking trails on the 35 acres and the pond in front of the home. Shenandoah River lot is 1 mile going left out of the driveway. The fully stocked kitchen allows you to make any dish you wish. Please enjoy the items in the kitchen cupboards; they are there for your use if needed. Other things to note The railroad passing by the property was completed by the Shenandoah railroad in 1867. The tunnel on the property is believed to be that old. Although, the train does not whistle as it passes by, you can feel/hear it's power throughout the property as it steams down the tracks. It is an enjoyable sight to see! The home and property are always being improved upon. Picnic area on the River Lot with picnic table, charcoal grill and firepit. Please bring your own grill supplies, additional seating and clean/take with you all garbage. Ensure firepit is completely out.
