We purchased this building in December, 2017 and immediately began a full renovation that was completed in December, 2019. This apartment is located on a quiet street in the "residential" part of Soulard. It is only blocks away from the Soulard Farmers Market and Anheuser-Busch Brewery and the many restaurants, bars and live music that Soulard has to offer. It is also a short bar shuttle or shared services ride to Busch Stadium, and minutes to downtown and the Arch, Forest Park and numerous other cultural and entertainment attractions. Upon arrival, we will be more than happy to personally check you in or, if you prefer, we can program your phone number into the door lockset so you can check-in at your timing and convenience. You will be welcomed with a complimentary bottle of wine and snacks, and an entertainment guidebook to help with planning your activities while in St. Louis. Benton Park itself is a block away. Advertised apartment is the downstairs unit. Apartment has recently undergone a complete restoration and renovation starting with a complete gutting. The wooden doors were all restored to their original condition and stained dark. The floor base trim, window and door trim and crown molding is all of wide wood, stained dark and recently installed. Flooring is new and ceiling is about ten feet high. A bit of the original red brick is exposed in various parts of the apartment for aesthetic purposes. All appliances are newer and nice including a dishwasher, washer and dryer. Apartment is fully furnished and decorated. We are pleased to offer this space and feel that it is more comfortable and better overall value if staying for three or more nights than what one could expect at a four star hotel. Amenities included are a full kitchen with cookware, silverware and dining set. Wi-Fi and basic satellite TV service is also included. Decoration is comprised of artisan, handmade, international crafts (many acquired from personal travels); not mass produced plastic stuff. The space This is a two-story house. The living room and kitchen with a dining table or downstairs. The bedroom, bathroom and laundry room are upstairs. There is a relatively large hallway upstairs out of which doors to the bathroom and bedroom open. The hallway also houses a small desk where guests can work at or enjoy a cup of coffee with a few of the yard and street. Guest access The entirety of the house is for guests’ enjoyment. There is a relatively large but not completely fenced yard that is shared with another building on the same property lot.

This gorgeous loft is perfect for long term stays and weekend get-aways, conveniently located within walking distance or a short drive to the best that St. Louis has to offer. You will be residing in historic Soulard, one of the most desirable, walkable neighborhoods in the city. The space is on the entire second floor of a two story building with plenty of windows for sunlight, yet at the same time, it's quite private due to how it's situated at the end of the block. The space Although this loft has an open floor plan, there is a half wall between the bedroom and the rest of the living space. It's at tree top level and in the winter, the sunrises and sunsets are quite lovely. The covered back porch is right off the kitchen and faces east; perfect for morning coffee and cool evening drinks or dinner, shaded from the afternoon summer sun. In the kitchen you will find a welcome bottle of wine to start your vacation! The kitchen is fully equiped with coffee, tea, sugar and honey, a built-in water filter system, plenty of pots, pans, dishes and even spices. Also a blender, microwave, and mini toaster oven. The living room has two omfortable chairs and a futon with cushy pillows, high speed internet, roku TV, and bluetooth stereo for your entertainment. There is a free standing closet and dresser in the bedroom. The lowest drawer holds extra linens, and two other cabinets have extra towels, pillows, and blankets. Laundry facilities are available for long term stays. Street parking is free and convenient. You can usually find spaces in the front or side of the building. There is a large side yard and small courtyard in the back, providing a lot of green space for city living. We are located near a highway, however, when the windows are shut, the sound of it is very faint. The lockbox on the door frame makes it easy for self check-in, and our manager, Isaiah lives close by if you need assistance. As you enter the building, there is a private staircase that leads up to the loft on the second floor. The back porch also has stairs that lead down to the courtyard, however, most people prefer the main entrance because the back stairs are narrow and curvy. *Please note you will see doors in the entranceway on either side of the stairs that are securely locked at all times for complete privacy. The downstairs neighbors have their own entrance. Check out is easy! We would appreciate it if you placed trash in the receptacles and washed any dishes you used, which can be left in the dish drain. The first floor of the building houses Whisk Bakeshop, which is owned by our daughter. The second floor is the Airbnb. The structure was originally built as a doctor’s office and residence. Over the past 18 months, the building has been lovingly renovated from what was once a chopped-up, cookie-cutter apartment to a contemporary, open loft space. Renovation included significant exterior masonry reconstruction, cornice replacement, new roof, new HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems, and full interior gutting and re-building, complete with a reclaimed, quarter-sawn white pine floor (sourced from a 125 year-old church from Adair, IL). Two blocks away from historic Cherokee St. with ample restaurants and bars, our home is also just a 5-minute drive from the lively Soulard neighborhood. You'll have access to high-speed internet/WiFi, a 55" TV, gas range, dishwasher, and kitchen equipment you'll need. The space The living area is open concept, with a full kitchen at your disposal. The entertainment area has a smart tv and is loaded with all of the apps you need, just don't forget to sign out! We've got a desk set up and nice kitchen table for you. The bedroom has a queen sized bed for two. Washer and dryer is off of the bedroom. Guest access You will have free range of the first-floor unit. The space Fun Americana themed kitchen has a Kuerig coffee maker, microwave, convection/toaster oven, fridge,dishwasher, & dinnerware. (stove in picture is not functional) Cozy & large combination living room/bedroom that has a glamorous authentic art deco queen bed w/ memory foam mattress, comfortable loveseat & chair, dresser, desk,smart tv. Bathroom features salvaged 1936 American Standard bathroom fixtures & salvaged vitrolite tile walls.WE provide shampoo, soap,towels & washcloths. About the Fortress: The building was originally built in 1941 as the Park Lane Clinic medical building and was used as a feeder clinic for the Park Lane Hospital that was on Lindell. Included in the original layout was a drugstore, medical office w/ exam rooms, and an apartment on the second floor for the doctor. The structure itself was state of the art for the time and is VERY solid, built in the Art Deco architectural style. It is made w/ blonde pressed bricks, art deco style terra cotta facade, glass block windows , and has a concrete interior structure to be fireproof. The basement also had a vault for storage of pharmaceuticals, a dumb waiter for their transport, incinerators, and heavy duty "fire" doors - all which still exist today. Restoration of the building began in 1999. Recent use of the space includes living space and an unofficial museum of "Art Deco Design " with a focus on now demolished or defunct interiors and architectural artifacts. Highlights include a 1940's Soda Fountain bar ( PA), 1940's drug store cabinetry from Hesselberg Drug Store ( St Louis), 1920's vitrolite Egyptian elevator door from the Hadley Dean Glass Co (St Louis), large sconces from the Shenandoah Theater ( St Louis), porcelain enamel counter & stools from Irv's Diner (St Louis) ,a large porcelain enamel sign from The Empire Sandwich Shop ( St Louis), and light fixtures from Sears ( St Louis) and The Bearrs Hotel ( Peru, Indiana) , Collections inside range from the 1930's through 1950's. If you would like a tour of the first floor collection, please let us know. Guest access You will have access to a private apartment in the rear of the building that includes a kitchen and combined living room/bedroom & bathroom on the first floor.
