The views from the large windows and porch with glass railings are amazing; you will see loons, geese, ducks, beavers, eagles, rainbows, and maybe depending on the season, you may see snow machines racing planes! During the spring, summer, and fall months enjoy our shared private beach where you can fish, swim, launch a canoe, kayak, paddle board or just float on a floaty. Enjoy the winter months ice fishing, ice skating, snowmobiling, cross country and downhill skiing (MTN’s are close).Whatever you want to do, you can do it here! Note: Ceilings are low, it's not recommended that you don't book here if you are over 6.5 tall... Guest access Entire house with full access to shared grounds and water equipment, with the exception of the pontoon boat and jet skis; however, if you would like me to take you for a ride on either, all you have to do is ask, I'm happy to take you out on the lake. Other things to note URGENT- effective August 7, 2024, two houses down from ours, went under construction; they are almost complete but they may have residual inside work. The construction is beyond my control and don't how loud it will be, or if it will even go on during your stay, but I need to make you aware that there may be some residual noise during your stay. So please DO NOT book with me at this time if construction noise bothers you, I must repeat... I cannot guarantee there won't be any noise or how loud it will be. I can say, last year and year before, when we were outside, even during the heart of the build, we could barely hear it, this year they are working on the inside so noise should be minimal, if at all. NO ELECTRIC CHARGING STATION- We do not have an EV charging station. We do have an outdoor outlet; however, there will be an additional $10 fee per day to charge. Mini fridge for drinks, water, a bottle of wine, coffee, tea in suite.Stay in your jammies. We do not allow dining in the suite. Outside dining is fine. Grab something in the shop and go. Need a homemade hand cut donut? Please note, our shop is seasonal, and only open in July ,August and September. The space Keep in mind..we do have friendly dogs(they sometimes bark). We do run a business. This is not a totally isolated spot. We are not able to accept pets. We DO NOT allow smoking or vaping ,in the suite or on our premises. Guest access Guests are welcome to access the areas by the riverside, (The Barton River ) to sit, sip wine and enjoy the sound of the water. We are happy to light a campfire at the riverside, as well. There is a covered "NEST" on the river bank. There are Adirondack chairs and comfy pillows, too. You are free to sit (even in the rain) and a BBQ grill to cook on, in the Summer and Fall months. This is a quirky old house without a single straight door, wall or window but its light, bright and comfortable with a great view of Crystal Lake in an area becoming celebrated for artisan produced foods, craft breweries and a "back to nature" approach to life. We've furnished our "Little Crooked House" with care and for comfort and we hope you love it as much as we do! ❤ The space Guests appreciate the cosy bedrooms with natural down comforters and cotton bed linen, especially on cold winter nights! ✨You'll have the whole place to yourself but only pay for the number of bedrooms you need for the size of your party✨. The house accommodates up to eight people. The nightly rate is based on two people sharing one room, extra person rate again assumes up to two people will share a room (for more information please ask when booking) Whether you need just one bedroom or all four bedrooms to accommodate your group, you'll have access to the living room, kitchen, two bathrooms, the games room, office and all the outside space including sun deck, front porch and parking. Barton is a great place to enjoy and explore the Northeast Kingdom all year round. Our Little Crooked House is easy to find just outside of the village of Barton, south on Route 5 and about a mile from the I91 (exit 25). Close enough for the convenience of the town's facilities but with enough distance to appreciate Crystal Lake and the view of Barton Mountain. There is plenty of communal space inside and outside so that guests can enjoy time spent together whatever the weather! We've tried to be environmentally and socially responsible in making our "Little Crooked House" a home; trying to re-use, recycle, up-cycle and repurpose wherever possible. We try to avoid "big box" stores and play our part in supporting the area's micro-economy by buying local and using local services and trades people. USEFUL AND INTERESTING STUFF The property is elevated from the road and accessed from a driveway shared by the neighboring property. There is enough space to comfortably park two to three vehicles dependant on the size of vehicle. Please let us know when booking how many vehicles you'll have with you (including trailers etc) in order to ensure we have enough space to accommodate you without encroaching on the neighbouring property. Once on the property access to the house is mostly level and reasonably wheel friendly for wheelchairs and buggies etc (although, inevitably when there's a lot of snow on the ground, this would be more challenging!) with all amenities on the ground floor. Please ask before booking if you have any concerns about this. The house was built around 1875, only 10 years after the end of the American Civil War and not much more than a century after the famous Roger's Rangers found refuge and sustinance on the banks of Crystal Lake. And as you'd imagine with a house this old, some of its fixtures could be out of a history book too, with some being more "shabby" than "chic". And whilst we're always trying to make improvements; we love it the way it is and hope guests will too! ❤ The kitchen has a gas stove, refrigerator, microwave, kettle, coffee maker, toaster and most of the pots, pans and dishes you should need. There is also an air fryer, crockpot, blender and electric mixer for guests who enjoy cooking up a storm! Two of the bedrooms are off the living room, one facing the lake and one facing the wooded rear of the house with two further bedrooms on the first floor. There's a common room upstairs too, with a foosball table, dart board and other games for guests to enjoy. (NB - do not let children play with the dart board unless supervised by an adult.) The living room overlooks the lake and has a sofa and three comfortable armchairs to relax in. We're sure you'll have lots more interesting things to do than watch TV but there's a flat screen with Netflix & Hulu etc and a dvd player should you wish to use them. TV comes via the Internet and whilst reception is generally excellent, however in case of disrupted signal it may be worth bringing your own favourite dvds in case of rainy days! We have a small collection also (hidden away in the ottoman trunk) but they may not be to your individual taste. Guest access Dependant on the number of guests in your party, you'll have access to up to four double bedrooms (two on the ground floor, two on the first floor); a living room, kitchen and 2 bathrooms (shower, toilet and hand basin), one on each floor. Nightly rate assumes up to two guests sharing a bedroom. Additional per guest rate assumes up to two guests will share a bedroom. Please ask if you need additional bedrooms for single occupancy. The ground floor bathroom (directly off the kitchen) is quirky with its roof- tin shower surround and exposed copper pipe-work; there is a further bathroom on the first floor with a washer and dryer, which guests are welcome to use and a games room with a foosball table and darts board. NB - children must not play with the darts unless supervised by an adult. There is a large deck to the side of the house overlooking the lake which has a dining table, chairs and parasol set out during the warmer months, plus there are three "zero gravity" recliners available for guests to use. In addition under the small covered porch at the front of the house there is a small cafe table and chairs set out all year round. Sadly, despite being animal lovers, we are unable to accommodate pets due to so many people suffering with pet-hair allergies Other things to note Whilst the view of Crystal Lake is very special, you should note that VT Route 5 runs between the house and the lake- front and we do not have our own direct access onto the lake. Crystal Lake can be accessed from the State Park or Town Beach The St Johnsbury to Newport railroad runs along the lake shore at this end of the lake; the line no longer carries passenger trains but there are usually two freight trains a day; one southbound at around 10am and one northbound at around 4pm. We’re offering a comfortable, pet and kid-friendly, A-frame log cabin surrounded by 30 acres of pristine Appalachian woodland to explore and hike. We also have a 6 acre front yard complete with a 1 acre pond you are welcome to fish and relax by. After a long day enjoying all the rustic beauty and small town charm that Vermont has to offer, you can warm yourself by our pellet stove which heats both floors of our over 1,600 sq ft 4 bedroom, 2 full baths home. 6 guests max [infants included]. The space We have a ramp leading up to the house for easy access. We also have a crib, a high chair, and child gates for the second floor staircase if necessary. Small and large dogs are permitted. Wifi and HD TV with access to Hulu and Netflix are provided. In the mudroom/laundry room, you'll find a washer and dryer as well as heated floors, chairs, coat hooks, and boot racks to unload your winter gear on. WINTER ~ Snowshoe, snowmobile, and alpine or cross-country ski around the beautiful winter landscape. Our home is located about one mile from the VAST snowmobiling trail for easy access. The nearest ski resorts are Jay Peak and Burke Mountain. Don't forget to try our world-renowned maple syrup during local Sugar-on-Snow get-togethers. Be sure to dress warmly! Four wheel drive or all wheel drive is highly recommended as well as good all season tires. SPRING ~ Fly-fish Vermont’s rivers, go golfing, or hike the Green Mountain range. Fish for bass, trout, and sturgeon in Lake Memphremagog. We don't have so much a "spring" season as a mud season, so if you’re feeling adventurous, take an ATV and mudbog! SUMMER ~ Swim, boat, and fish at Crystal Lake and Lake Willoughby. There are several blueberry and raspberry picking areas nearby as well. In Barton you can attend the Orleans County Fair which runs through mid-August.
