Barnes Hospital and SSM/St. Louis University Hospital are each less than two miles from the Westminster.  The Westminster has a top-quality Queen-sized bed. There is dedicated high-speed internet service. The flat-screen TV has an antenna for local stations and Roku for streaming any services to which you subscribe. The large galley kitchen is fully equipped for basic meal preparation and includes EVOO, salt and pepper. All linens are included. Yes, there is a hair dryer, iron, and ironing board.  Before your arrival, the Westminster will be stocked with freshly roasted coffee, welcome treats and teas, and light breakfast foods to start your stay. We pull the air conditioners out of the window by the middle of November to clean and store for the winter. We re-install the air conditioners in April. If you feel like you need an air conditioner outside of this schedule, please discuss with us. We will do our best to accommodate.  In the winter, heat is controlled by a central boiler that runs steam through the radiators. It is our goal to heat the Westminster in the 70-degree range. If you want more heat, the Westminster has an electric space heater that you are welcome to use.  You will always find best pricing at SF Shannon.  IS IT SAFE? Since all SF Shannon apartments are in the historic core of St. Louis, we occasionally receive the question: Is it safe? This question is impossible to answer, because we know nothing about the person asking it. One of the owners lives three blocks from the Westminster. Karen and her husband raised their sons in the neighborhood, and have always felt perfectly safe, day or night.  WHY THAT NAME? The Westminster got its name because the apartment overlooks the historic homes of Westminster Place to the north. This location is in the historic core of St. Louis. Grand mansions and architectural gems are in every direction.  Thank you for your interest! If you want the Eliot to be warmer than about 70 degrees, there is a space heater in the main room closet.  In hot weather, the Eliot is cooled by a window unit air conditioner, which is installed mid-spring and removed mid-fall. Rachel, Karen and their spouses have raised their families in their respective neighborhoods, and have always felt perfectly safe.  WHY THAT NAME? The apartment is named after Kate Chopin, an American author who moved into a house only three blocks directly west of the apartment building shortly after writing her best-known novel, The Awakening. Kate Chopin's former home, at 4232 McPherson Avenue, still stands. This was also Kate's last address. If you visit, be sure to admire the magnificent American Chestnut tree directly across the street from her home.
